I'm after something for chasing Mullas in the river & heavier beach fishing without spending too much (missus & kids). Do you think this would be up to the task?

get what you pay for
You get what you pay for, Ugly stick rods in that size tend to be a bit sloppy and dont cast heavy baits, the reel is obviously a cheapy. But it will be ok for the money spent especially for occasional fishing.
Keep sand out of that reel and it will last a while.
