Two Rocks - Help wanted

Went out from Two Rocks yesterday ( monday) for the first time. Got there at 7am and was the first boat in. As I have never fished there before and with no other boats around at the time I had no idea where to start fishing. Ended up fishing out west on direction bank as the weather was good. Got a couple of dhuies but nothing to brag about. There were a few trailers back at the ramp when we got in at 4.30pm but we did not see any boats on the water all day. That may indicate we were fishing in the wrong spot.
Looking for advice on the area. Where to start for a chance of a dhuie or snapper. Is it lumps or flat coral I should be looking for. Is there ground worth a try a bit closer in. Is it better north or south of the marina.

Any help would be great.
Paul

Paul - we launched a bit after 7 and headed norwest. Unfortunately it was not my boat and its electrics were not up to par. There is good ground all around but yesterday was hard work. No one is going to give away too much info up there as there is a lot of hours put in to find spots, but I generally do well in depths 30-35m. You do need a good sounder though, a drift anchor, and fresh big baits, sargent bakers and small wrasse work well, as do fresh squid and cuttlefish.Run in tide in the morning seems to work best for me, otherwise really late in the arvo with a glass off. Happy to take you out or come out on your boat and try and help, but some days up there it is too easy and other are just hard work.

That seems like it is just beyond 3 mile or are you talking about that depth on direction bank ?
We have all the good electrinics but after many years I am still learning how to use the sounder to its potential. Paul

Nothing special

Just the std patanosta and usualy vary the hook size during the day dapending on what is biting. Don't usualy have a prob hooking fish it's the finding them that is the hard part particularly in an area I dont usualy fish, hence the post.
Don't expect anyone to give me gps positions but the good thing about this site is the willingness of people to help others and your quick responce is a fine example of that.
Once again , Thank you.

Deeper is better :) We went

Deeper is better :)

We went out 2 weeks ago, around 18 mile directly west. out to 35-45m of water. On your GPS you can see some rises out there that come up it 30m in the 40m range. Theres a big ridge out there all the way up a couple mile inside the shipping channel.

Plenty of fish. WE bagged 6 dhuies and 3 bladys in half a day

Cheers

ps: good sound does work well. We were on some coral lumps which would have been maybe 1m 1.5m high

PM me!

The amount of ppl that fish Tworocks and the extent of ground often means a void in seeing boats. I saw no one today and got plenty of good dhufish & baldchin groper etc....a good day!

PM me Paul with any info required!

Weekdays Off

Thu, 2008-08-07 10:40

The joys of having weekdays off Alfred.
Monday is my fishing day, weather permitting, but the downside is working weekends and not seeing where others are fishing when I get out on the water. Hard when you fish new ground and are clueless.
