Winter projects
So the boat is home in the shed for the winter after a massive summer and Autumn campaign.
So I've got a list of things to do staring with ripping up the deck carpet and replacing it all with stick on EVA foam flooring, mate did it with his and it's a great product that doesn't cost a fortune.
Next will be new fuel lines throughout and tank clean.
I've just bought a new 9" furuno combo that I need to install and get my head around, a big leap from the 585 with wind back capabillity, ACU fish feature and CHIRP capable, but not spending 2.5k on a new tranny. The 1KW I have will still do a good job.
biggest job I have is replaing the steering pivot arm, that's the part connected to the leg with a spline at the end, mine's corroded and the circlip retainer has fallen off. I've two different mechs about replacing it and both gave me a crucifix sign.
Anyway I've done a lot of research it's not thyat big a job, leg off (service at the same time) And powerhead off , you don't need to disconnect anything just suspend the engine. The hardest bit is to pop the spline using a bottle jack and the weight of the boat.
Sounds all good in priciple lol.
I've also been looking at respraying parts of the outboard itself, there's some great spray can products on the market, 2 pack paint and clear coats. It's all about the prep.
How about you guys? Love seeing the resto posts and any winter refurbs.
I'll post pics as I go along.
Cheers

What unit did you buy Andy
What unit did you buy Andy love my gp unit, but still don't know how to use it to its capacity at all. But has been giving me really good showings of the bottom being able to scroll back and mark fish is really handy. Then it's just up to you to actually set your drift up to hit it.

I run that
As well as a 588 Andy. I have the 1971 flush mounted.
I find the 588 better for sounder as the extra height of the screen is more useful.
If a non fishing outing I won't worry mounting the 588 as can do it all on the 1971.
Transducer is a B164 and works great on both.
Reverse cycle a/c supply and install - Ducted and wall splits

Few jobs to keep busy
In the shed.Getting some desiel or pennetrene into that spline a day or two before may help separating if corroded.
Have Furuno got any better with there maps ? I wanted to fit the new boat 18 months ago with that same unit but was put off by there mapping detail so stuck with lowrance for plotter and furnuno sounder. Its not bad actually because i can run both at same time and split screen the hds and use the scroll back to mark features.
Watching the shit show on the Venice canals right now I reckon plenty of maintenance going on here Fark me lol.
My winter progect atm consists of filling my guts full of spritz, vino pasta and cicchetti and whatever eles they shove on the table.Lunch today in Murano was pretty much what us fishos keep in the bait freezer but bloody awesome in the right hands.I can say now we do underutilise a lot of our produce.Anyway each to there own and happy adventures in the sheds

So the first hurdle was
So the first hurdle was transferring waypoints from my lowrance to the new Furuno unit.
Lowarnce saves as a USR file but needed to convert to a GPX file. Also the Lowrance only takes a large SD card and the Furuno a micro FFS so had to buy a converter card.
Anyway using EasyGPS have converted the waypoints, fingers crossed they upload when I fire the new unit up.

GPX Format
Hey Andy -the Lowrance should save as .gpx - but unsure what vintage you have - worth a try as the conversions never seem to go to well for me. Follow this link but ignore the first 30sec. https://images.app.goo.gl/jiGGk8ozojsEYzKm6
