Swan River Tailor

Hi guys my biggest tailor from the swan is 35cm so not massive but I hve heard they get to 60cm and generally use lures but found the new trend is trolling mullies on gangs talking to other fishos but it would be great to get some more advice in regular fisherman like me. So what is the best time of day to catch tailor presumer in periods of dark when they feed, what is the best tides, best time of year for big ones, is there any secret bait besides the usual mulie or pilchard, what is the best rig with what lb leader and where is the best spots just for big ones in the river so I can get some line peelin off my reel. Cheers.

After, you have spent a few dollars on gear he has recommended you use for chasing tailor on the swan might be the way to go, or use the search box to see what info there is in past posts, just my thoughts on the subject.

 Fishing is simple and easy

Fri, 2019-02-08 06:51

Fishing is simple and easy mate, small hooks and baits equal small fish mostly. Big hooks equal bigger fish mostly. Keep your gear simple, use the smallest sinker you can to get your bait where you want it. I myself mostly only use a very few rigs for everything. For anything big I use a snelled rig (Two hook rig for one bait) Size is usually between 6/0-8/0. I catch everthing from Snapper,Mulloway to Sharks up to 3metre. Just use wire trace for the Sharks. For all small fish using bait I tie a small hook straight to my line or sometimes on a small trace. Use as small a sinker or no sinker if possible. That's what I do for everthing. If you want to use lure just experiment, start with small lures. As to best times fish are always swimming around so the more you fish the more you  catch. I often catch fish at times other people say you won't /shouldn't. I've caught many fish on wire trace that other people say you won't. My point is get out there and fish often. The more you fish the more you catch on average. Use berley as much as you can it helps. Now get out there and fish and experiment and get  off the computer or phone lol. Use and practice the information everyone has given you. Good luck.

Keep a diary of your fishing experiences

Fri, 2019-02-08 15:39

If you keep a diary of your fishing experiences with location, time, date, tide bait used etc over time you will see a patten form that will be an excellent guide for you. List all of your experiences in your diary not just the successful trips. When chasing mullet I use pollard to bring them on the bite then use a small trout fly that looks like a small bread crumb together with a very light line 2-3 kilos it’s not successful every time but works better than anything else I’ve tried.

Good luck.

Great advice. I used to used

Great advice. I used to used the yellow almanac as my fishing diary. Hand wrote all the local  tide times in. After a few years of fishing 3 or 4 nights a week there was a few patterns that became pretty obvious.
