I caught 4 and lost more in a session in cockburn sound last summer. It's been a long wait and since then I've learnt how to cast a fly rod, I'm a wee bit excited, definitely one of the species I hoped would make their way down with the current.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a few on the flats of the canning I thought they were huge mullet at first but the tail shape looked more like the giant herring. Might have to go out for another cast on my days off.

Hey Albee, mind sharing any tips for hooking them. We got a few nudges and interested follows but no solid hookups. Are poppers the best option or do a range of lures work?

Same thing happened to me

Same thing happened to me last year when I was using a twisty. I went back the next day and caught them all on 3 inch burkley powerbait minnow plastics. Good luck

giant herring

A mate of mine went out on his yak a couple of weeks ago out caversham way and say about 10 of these (amongst hundreds of other fish) floating on top of the water dead.

I was out about 2 weeks ago around redcliffe bridge and saw soemthing that resembles one of these (looked about 40 - 50cm) tailing my lure on the retreive, got it to within about a meter of the shore and it zipped away.  Spent the next hour very frustrated whilst trying to get it interested......
