Stradic 8000FI vs Saragosa 8000F
Submitted by WODF on Fri, 2009-03-27 11:35
Hey everyone,
I’ve narrowed it down to these reels, stuck in deciding between these two as a replacement for my Penn 850. Only 3g difference in weight, .5 difference in retrieve ratio, both have 6 bearings and both come in just under $300. Will be primarily used for spinning from the stones, casting poppers and jigging offshore for species such as Mackerel, Tuna, GTs and everything in between on a variety of different rods, for anyone wondering. I know a few people on here have or have had experience with these reels so any good or bad points on either would be greatly appreciated and opinions very welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Saragosa

I first bought a sara 14000 after almost being spooled with a PENN. So impressed with the reel I now have 4. 4000, 5000, 8000 and the 14. Claim to be a downgrade from a Stella but I think it is more like an upgrade Spheros (which isnt bad imo). Lat week the better half caught a 7kg Chinaman easily on her 4000. I have no info on Stradics but cant complain about the saras.
Hope this helps a little

I have a 2500 and 8000 Strafic FI
I love them, Great value for money reels. I know a few people have had trouble with a sticky drag straight out of the box, but that is easily fixed by removing the excess grease on the drag washers.
I couldn't compare them to the Saragosa as I have never tried one out.
Have a look at the new Abu Garcia Soron's. That is another great value reel.

Stradic
My Stradic had a sticky drag at the start, this was quickly fixed by Ryan and Honsu. :)
Love the reel, use it mainly for chucking slices, x-raps etc.

if your going to be jigging
if your going to be jigging the saragosa would be a better choice as the stradics arent made for it although they may handle it but not as well as sara
one thing on the stradics though that is real nice is the maintenance ports
real good idea

I hate sticky drags!
This seems to be a common occurrence with the Stradics, can't really have that when hooked up to a Wahoo or similar. I'll be running 30lb braid if this helps but I want to be able to fish it to the max, 6-8kgs of drag.

Some of them seem to only be sticky when sraight
out of the box due to excess grease on the drags. A quick clean and they work perfectly.
Sherbs gave his a good work out on a stringray on Sunday after removing the excess grease and it worked perfectly.

Stradic 8000
Have a Stradic 8000. Love it great reel. You can get carbontex drag washers for them from erskines. Flogged the handle out on mine jigging. Beefed it up with Stella handle and main gear.(fits perfect). Only thing is I had to glue in screw on other side to keep water/grit out.

Shecky has a saragosa and i have a brand new stradic.
He will tell you the saragosa is better and i will tell you the stradic is better :P
If you were to take us both fishing we would allow you to have a play with both, And we both run 30lb braid, even better for comparison.
I am very impressed with the overall performance of my stradic, damn smooth and very balanced which makes spinning so much more comfortable.
