South coast Noah's
Submitted by Chris fish on Fri, 2012-12-21 18:20
After recently moving to Albany I've been doing a heap of fishing and free diving but still made time to chase a few sharks.
Ive been trying to get a few small sharks to keep for tea but just can't get past the plague numbers of 2-2.5m ones!! I've been kayaking and balooning baits with good success, we have hooked 20+ sharks and landed a fair few in the last month and hooked a few monsters that are just to big to get in haha.

Wait till salmon season,
Wait till salmon season, instead of 3-4 hookups a day you could get 5-7 easy and land most of them if your back can take it hahaha. Would be good to see the club boys come down for a comp.

Cheers guys, these things
Cheers guys, these things are great fun to target and a real challenge and something that I suppose isn't everyone's thing but seeing these up close is awesome!!
Jorie this Poseidon rod is is very heavy!! I run full drag with 24kg line on it and can lean against it very heavily without even putting a massive bend in it so I would guess 20kg of pressure against it fairly easily. The other shimano Catana we use is a bit lighter and my custom overhead one is lighter again and only run 40lb on it.

Overhead all the way for
Overhead all the way for line capacity. You need at least 100m of mono on top of braid because the stretch and abrasion resistance of mono help so much when you start going big. Also wind on leaders and 49strand wire are a must. It's taken me close to 2 years to get rigs and setup perfected and even now I still only land 50% of what I hook. Big sharks just push everything to its limit in the same way I imagine fishing for big game fish like marlin would. Very challenging and rewarding that's for sure.
