Softies rod
Submitted by silly on Mon, 2010-02-22 18:53
I'm looking for a new softies rod mainly for snapper fishing on the boat but also for flicking around exmouth. Something around 7' and 3-6kg probaly be suitable. Going to match it to my 3000 size daiwa. Budget around $150
Would like a G loomis or shikari but think there way over my budget... Thoughts so far are shimano stralo stix 7' 3-6kg or raider II 4-7kg, Penn Pinpoint tournament 7' 4-6kg, Rovex aluma 4-6kg ??
What others are there?
cheers

Also
Shimano Raider II is also a nice rod in that budgetary range (it will match up nicely if you have a SOL).
And if it was me I'd bypass the starlo stix and get a starlo stix tournament pro - better rod, nicer colour and still in budget.

I still use a Starlo Stix Pro - Maxspin. Haven't found the need to spend any more money yet.

Shimano raider
is a good rod for the price.
also have a penn tournamet 3-6 which has pulled some nice snapper/sambo and pelagics up north.
I have a sol 2000/2500 and 4000 and the 2500 handles all of the above rods and species.
The trion is a very nice rod also
I run braid from 2-6kg depending on the species

Trion
I have a Pflueger Trion that i used for pinkies in the sound, fish over 750 and performed very well for there price with a Stradic. Look around and see what you like! If your in the area Oceanside does have them for a good price! Ryan and Honsu will help you out.

the dropshot tournament pro
the dropshot tournament pro 6-8 is a great rod up here in the tropical waters miight be to heavy but for solid snapper id imagine it would be a fantastic stick, about $175. also have a look at the st croix range you will definitely find something 4-6kg under $300

recommend & use!
The Pflueger Trion 3-6kg 7ft rod is awesome and under $150!
I've got a few Pflueger rods i use on my boat here for Pink Snapper on SP and use it up in Exmouth for Spangos/Goldens with SP & poppers (3-6kg 7ft model)

Super PE braid is one of the better brands, few other to choose from also.

stick with the orange theme on the SOL. A raider II rod will complete the burnt orange extraveganza.
