New boat rod for Bottom bouncing the Pilbarra

Hi Guys

I am currently using a Shimano Lacunas jig rod to bottom bounce and I am finding it a little long to be a true boat rod.

I like fishing with a spin reel, The Saragosa 8000 and was thinking off a Monster mesh to match it.

Any suggestions?

Neels

Bottom bouncing rod

G'day Neels, It all depends on your budget, I use a Saltiga Hiramasa 5/6 HS on a Saltiga 4500Z spinning reel, loaded with 40lb. The rod itself has tackled some good sized samson fish in it's time and has a nice parabolic curve when loaded up. I have also heard good things about the M/mesh rods and If I was considering one, would buy one @ 5'6" and rated to P.E 5. or thereabouts.

Hey mate, I have the Deep

Hey mate, I have the Deep Jig 200 matched to a 8000 Stella and it is great for bottom bashing. I have PE 4 on it. Great for fishing up to 50m, any further and the sinkers get too heavy for the rod.

use an overhead - its about 1000% easier to use when bottom bashing IMO. Click it in free spool to feed line instead of flipping a bail arm etc. If you were jigging then there is a case for both, but for purely b/b, overhead everytime.

I'm with HuggyB on the overhead, you can pick up a cheap TLD 20 combo and load it with PE5 and you will love it. for the spin reel at least 6ft for the rod length, i can't recommend a rod in particular Neels as i'm a overhead man.

I think that would be a good option.

I have a TLD 20 and 25, and a TICA and Allutechnos

But they are the trolling rigs and I just love fighting fish with a eggbeater. Thanks for the opinion Huggy and Brucesta but I am looking for a spin rig. Have the reels to match with Saragosas from 4000 to 14000. Had 2 5000's but now one. A beast stole my custom rod and 5000 at Sampson on a setty. Trying to be sporty and I lost. Even with no drag. Jill has a Monster mesh and she has some fun.

I was trying to get the feel if there is something better. Budget to Bling.

You could try a Xzoga Neels

But I would still find it hard to go past the Monster Mesh as value for money.

i'm a bit in the same boat mate. I am thinking of going with the monster mesh as well. I'll probably get the P.E. 3 one tho to use with softies for the exy comp. if you get one before me, let me know how it goes

As mentioned Webby Gillian uses hers all the time

Wed, 2010-02-24 11:56

Without looking close I think hers is rated  PE4-5 but the Saragosa 14000 was to big for her and she has a 8000 on it and I am jealous. Not that I dont like the Tcurve I use, but it is just to long to be comfortable all the time. Also hooking a unstopable on the MM would be better with a good chance of turning its head.

I think the Tcurve Lacunas would struggle as it is a jig rod, not a come here stick

sorry mate, missed that bit of the comment. im looking at putting a 4000 on mine, the PE 2 to 4 im looking at may not quite be a come here stick, but should be able to stamp some sort of authority.
