Sinker storage idea
Submitted by catchalittle on Tue, 2013-10-22 22:24
Have had a few people on different boats that I have owned over the years and all have made comments about how I store my bottom bounceing sinkers which is a old dishwasher cutlery basket that I grabbed off our old dishwasher before we turfed it out and since then whenever I see verge throw outs that have a old dishwasher amongst them Im quick off the mark and grab another one they are great for storeing 6,12 and 20 ounce sinkers and the the baskets fit inside most gunnel pockets so your sinkers arnt slideing around the boat and each sinker has its own little spot, plus I also use them to store my squid jigs in while they are wet before I put them back in the squid jig wallet and have another one that I put large hard body lures in

Brilliant idea, always worry
Brilliant idea, always worry about the tackle box flying open due to the weight

Box
That's a good idea and as you say could work for a number of items . I just changed my setup and got some heavy duty plastic containers that fit into my seat boxes, works for me. And they stay in the boat locked in the seat boxes so I don't have to move them in and out.

I just put my sinkers in the plastic fruit containers you can buy peaches etc. in, have three and sorted into small, med and large. Don't have to get a new one very often so ease of access is no problem
Great idea though might put one in for dropping used lures in, then just pull it out at the end of the day to rinse the salt off the lures before putting back in the trays.
Cheers

You'd be fighting my wife off
You'd be fighting my wife off first - she is known to come home with something obscure grabbed of the verge - eventually finds it way beck to the verge in front of our place after it doesn't find a use -
usual banter goes something like this-
They put it out for a reason honey!!
But it's free!!
But it's useless dear!!
She once dragged me back to look at the "Free No Name Bike" that would cost more to fix (not including my time and effort) than a new bike.

Sounds like our Wives could be related
I've put a ban on collecting now after having most of the Garage piled with crap that would apparently be used for some sort of project that'll never happen
Latest verge collection I threw everything out and the rest of the stuff from out the back, in the end the pile was a metre high and took up half of the front yard, and it's a big front yard
Threatened to call the Hoarders show in future if she tries collecting again

Feels great to pick something
Feels great to pick something like that up and find it's a basic electrical fault
Had that before with a plasma screen that looked cosmetically fine. One trip to Jaycar to match the blown capacitor I found and a few dabs of solder and I was $250 richer for an hour of my time.

As for the plasma....
not to mention the sense of achiement for fixing something that was heading to the tip!
I've purchased a few of the rectangle shape buckets from Bunnings. I think they're called window washing buckets but they fit nicely in my under gunwale storage and are great for sinkers, lures, leaders etc. I also have a small "six pack" esky for sinker storage which is is stowed away as back up.

Put a washing machine out on
Put a washing machine out on the verge because it was well and truly rooted. I was mowing and old mate pulls up and asks does it work, I politely reply that I love throwing out stuff that works. He umms and ahhhs for about 10 minutes before coming back with the trailer and off he goes with the thing. Council cleanup happens and not long after the cheeky prick puts the f%$#king thing back where he grabbed it from.
Cheers

Holiday
Missus went over east for our granddaughters 18th birthday and stayed for about 3 weeks, lots of stuff went missing in that time never to be seen again and a warning when she got back that it wasn't to be replaced.
Now she is threatening me that she will attack the shed and especially the fishing gear, saying that you are only allowed to fish with two rods at a time so the other 20 something plus are not needed.------like buggery!!!!!

as far as sinker storage, we used a galvanised tool box that also doubled as a foot rest in our last boat.
icecream containers also work great, especialy the tall narrow 2 ltr ones. eating the contents first is a bonus lol

great idea with the sinker storage
but a word of warning to everyone the verge out the front where everyone stacks there rubbish is council property and you can be charged with stealing from the council for taking stuff ,bullshit i hear you say ,i have a $680 fine to prove it a freind and i took a head of an old 250 crossflow ford motor that was on the verge next minute coppers ,then court where the judge clearly explained that the councils reley on the scrap from verge collections to cover the cost of the rubish removal so i was to pay the value of the head in fines
,iwas lucky but as they wanted to confiscate my car aswell as that was used to commit the crime but managed to get out of that
