Shitties

Better known as the Trumpeter.

Sorry, but I was bought up in South Oz where these little beauties were refered to as Shitties and I refuse to change that.

Does anybody know of a way to reduce the accidental hookup of these little darlings while you're fishing for Whiting?

I fished Geographe Bay on Saturday and while I ended up with 12 KGW, I counted the Shitties and actually caught 42 of them to get my 12 whiting, very frustrating.

Thanks in advance

Turd eyes

We use to call them Turd Eyes when pulling the bloody things out of nets, the only way to get them out is to pull them all the way through and that meant finger and thumb in the gills to grab them and getting the spike on the gill plate stuck in each time.

Worse than blowies inside the sound as well .. the only thing we were thinking of doing was creating a diversion and float out a frozen burly bomb and throw rigs in the opposite direction , could possibly make it worse as well lol.. whiting grounds in deeper water don't seem to be as bad.

Ain't too bad

My little kid thinks I'm an absolute hero bringing him out fishing and catching heaps off these. As long as they aren't blowies:). The bigger ones give a good account of themselves.

A good way to get them

A good way to get them started, small kids don't care what they catch.

The best way

The best way to avoid catching shitties while fishing for king george whiting in geographe bay is not to spend too much time at one spot and to move on before the shitties move in, use a long shank hook to make de hooking easier. DO NOT use burley.
