shimano torsa 20

i am looking at biting the bullet and spending some dollars on some gear very soon.....

so for starters i was wondering what people think of the torsa reels.......

i was thinking the torsa 20 and putting 50lb braid on it for bottom bouncing and also the ocasional jigging

not sure what rod as yet.. got a backbone at the moment..... eventually maybe a shimano jig wrex

Great

I don't think there is anything that compares , even a double the price .

I have seen them get hammered all day every day out jigging , probably 20 fish a day with minimal servicing req.

I'll let you use mine a few

Wed, 2008-09-10 20:12

I'll let you use mine a few more times mate before you commit to buying, I reckon these reels speak for themselves and dont think many that own them would have a lot to complain about.

Pretty sure Shikari (Al Beavan the jigging king) runs a few on his boat and rates them right up there in performance and durability.

The Stella's are awesome too mate, ask anyone who stocks them how many they get back under warranty, and you've seen how well mine perform.

Your quite welcome to try mine out and make up your own mind Jess Wink

They're pretty spendy, right into Accurate's price range. Are they really better than an Accurate two-speed? They seem to review well, with the exception of the 665W

I think you'll find the accurate 2 speeds are a fair bit more exxy than the T20, the twin drag 665w is a jigging reel I think from memory and isnt much difference in price??

I'd stick with the T20 for an overhead, but geez the Accurate spinners are one reel that would be hard to beat, and in the same price range as the new SW Stellas and Daiwa's Saltigas.

I'm surprised there's not more Accurates being talked about actually, and wonder what parts availability would be like.

Not sure you would want to

Thu, 2008-09-11 08:22

Not sure you would want to be jigging with a Wide reel, most people use the narrow, or extra narrow for that. I only saw one price for the two speeds on an aus website;

Model 665 two-speed has 5:1 high and 2:1 low ratio gears, and a capacity of 300yds 40lb nylon, or 400m PE6 braid plus a 100m 24kg nylon top shot. for $759

Oh and it doesn't have plastic sideplates like the Torsa :P

The 665w I had in stock was a single speed jigging reel that retails for around the $760 mark, not sure where you got the price for the 2 speed,US dollars?

I can live with my plastic side plates on my T20 & T30 ......LOL

Al.

ps. had an Accurate twin spin come back for a warranty repair that only took three months to be returned to us, I know what way I'd go Wink

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:04

The pricing was from Bluewater's website. I must say a lot more competitive than their Avet pricing, in terms of comparison to the US pricing.

The 665 is a bigger reel than the T20, probably the closes in terms of capacity is an 870XNC for a smidge under $700 250yds of 30lb mono, about 200g lighter and 6:1 gear ratio and 7 class 5 abec stainles steel bearings. I know its not gold Mr Bling, but I prefer the wiffleball handles. Pity to hear you got poor warranty service. Who handles their warranty in Australia?

You know I only make the dig about the plastic side plates because I can. If they were structural, I'm sure Shimano would've made em in metal =)

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:22

Benbow's are suppliers of Accurate gear here in WA, the warranty service was ok as the reel was replaced so it's all good, just took a bit longer than expected.

I'm almost certain it was the 1st warranty claim made for an accurate reel in WA, so I would say that any in future would be dealt with a bit quicker now that they know how to go about it.

The single speed twin drag Boss E series 665w is about the same size as the T20, it's a sweet looking reel that I'd imagine would perform as well as anything else on the market.

You might want to check the Torsa's side plates mate, definatly not plastic Wink

Benbows? Thats that Madaffari guy and others?

Hmm ok, I though I saw a review somewhere that said they were metal covered plastic on the sides. Perhaps it was another shimano overhead.

The twindrag system on the accurates sounds pretty good too but I'm yet to try one IRL. Probably a few on Shikari and worth a try before you buy.

Wow, that 665W is must be compact little brute then, its even got more line capacity than the  TS40! (350 v's 260yds of 50lb mono).

No twin spin

Thu, 2008-09-11 14:08

Last time I looked Al didn't have a twin spin , plenty of accurate O/H's but no spinners that I know of.

He got some new goodies from Icast tho so we'll have to see what he brings out next. I should be seeing him this weekend so I'll ask.

Dont hold back

The Torsa is a great reel. I have the 30 but I started with the Trinidad 30 which I still have. Liked the Trinidad but love the lever drag heaps better on the Torsa, much better control. Done heaps of jigging and trolling live baits for kings etc. No problems just a annual service.

thanks for the input guys..... i am gunna go have a look at the accurate reels..... they sound to be the ducks nuts...... then i'll make up my mind

as for the stella's... i have seen what they can do and how well they handle big fish time after time... and i havn't seen em faulter one bit..... when im in the market for something like that i'll look around but i think the stella will win out.... unless proven wrong of course

Once you've checked out the Accurate, drop in and I'll show you the Torsa 20, really for 50lb work you cant go wrong with either.

You'll find there'll be more feedback for the Accurate than the Torsa. The Torsa is no more than 4yrs old.

Boofhead has been using my T20 and nearly stole it after playing games with a fair few sambos last weekend, I've also suggested that he take a look at the Accurate at Canning Vale that he could get a decent discount on.

My gut feeling is that he will go the T20 after the experiences he had whilst using it.

Mate next thurs/fri is looking good if you get a day off, I reckon your boss owes you by now, gimme a call to organise a day out with no bait to see if we cant jig up a few ooglies.
