Shark bay fishing charters

Gday all,

just got back from a couple of weeks in shark bay, had a great time bit windy first week, still managed to get the boat out most days though but had to stay within the bay, as we dont want to hammer our spots we only go to the same spots twice on a holiday last week went to one of our spots for the first time this year was there about half hour when one of the two charter operators in town[not unreal charters, they are reputable and I would, and do recommend them to anybody]so that only leaves 'mac attack' came right up to us abusing us wanting to know how we got...... 'his'........ spot because apparently nobody knows this particular fishing spot, the abuse we endured was quite unbelievable especially when we had our families on board and he had a full charter was unbelievable and very unpleasant, as we were out to have an enjoyable day I told my mate to pack up and we would shift to another spot, so the big bully boy thought he won that round, Has anybody else experienced the very profesional behaviour of this skipper? I told as many people in shark bay about our experience as possible because I believe good operators should be recognised and bad operatores named, I was going to give out the coordinates for the spot, but eventually decided not destroy one of my fishing spots.

Cannot believe

that masters of a vessel would even consider abusing a person on another vessel with a boat load of tourists onboard. Mind you I was told a funny story of a Master of a vessel in Exmouth who done a similar thing to an old bloke in a Dinghy who was completely unaware of what he did, will not say too much here but the Skipper abused the shit out of the bloke, again with a boat load of tourists on board , but little did the skipper know that the old boy was waiting for him on the beach! Biffo, punched him out in front of his crew members . Maybe Jeff send the charter operator an email, it may only be a skipper operating the charter and ask the question

Did it once

Tue, 2013-05-07 06:35

Was coming in to Bunbury on a 50 foot wetliner, when about 4nm SW spotted an old mate, we, decky and myself, hadn't run into for years, anchored up in his tinny fishing away.
Drove the boat up so we had the sun behind us and when close yelled at him to get the F#$%^off my spot .With us up on the flybidge and him looking into the sun, he had no idea who it was until we both burst out laughing at his response telling us to get back to where we belong.

Was gold to see his face when we came down on to the deck where he could recognise us, but then he let us have a mouthful again for pulling the stunt.

Agreed, it was a low act for the charter skipper to force you to move, if it was me there was no way I'd shift and if possible would have filmed it and reported him to DoT authorities so he gets a black mark n his ticket.

What a tosser! If you can verify which operater it was i'd post a thread on him, so future searches of "shark bay charters" will let people know.

good old mac attack

Tue, 2013-05-07 21:29

Should have told him you got a mate to ping it when he was last out on his boat,,  so cheers for the spot MAC..

thinks hes owns the waters up there, plenty of spots out from monkey, he just doesnt know them.

Fished there for the last 25 years on the family holiday and always bring fish home and you dont have to go far just have to know to go.

hope you had a good trip anyway

School Mac Attack LOL

Hi Jeff,

Had similar occasions with said charter (Capital "C" omitted on purpose!)

That skipper is a window licker.

Takes up to 9 people out on a small boat, all the way up to Turtle Bay, vertical standing room only! Seriously, looked like stand-up sardines, no idea how they can fish like that. Safety wise, there is no way in hell I would have taken the risk as skipper with that many people crammed on a relatively small boat, in ugly conditions. To those that know the area, out a fair way from Rowley Shoals, but can be super ugly with wind and tide. Many boats come to grief there! :(
The guy sees us rock up, and comes roaring over to the start of our drift, and repeats this over and over. :(

I ended up moving off.....a loooooong way.

Had similar thing happen inside the bay, comes across (driving) behind my boat with his crew trolling bottom rigs.....one of my deckies thought he had a fish on.....no just a shiny new rig! Pays to fish heavier gear than them sometimes! ;)

The thing that has always got me agro is that if you go on a charter, not a cheap exercise, that is CALLED Mac Attack, you'd expect them to come in every now and them with something better than small SCHOOLIES!

As a charter operator you need to have your OWN spots, and deliver the results consistently, as indeed do Unreal Charters up there.

Yeah OK, rant over, just bring it all back!

Happy Fishing,

Joe

sharkbay fishing charters

Gday Joe,

Agree with you never saw him come in with a real spanish mackeral, only schoolies, but then he was only fishing in the bay, probably to concerned with abusing other fishermen to spend the time with his paying passengers. I also think your rant re rowley shoals was wrong, you probably meant the levillian shoals near turtle bay, the previous owner used to go up their, they would only do them with full day charters, no one was going on full day charters with mac attack while we were up there,[dont know why] those going on fullday charters were all on unreel charters.

Shark bay fishing charters,, Mac Attack.

Thu, 2013-05-23 13:56

Just got back from Denham, My bro inlaw and 5 family members spent $$$ on this charter to come back with 3 fish between them. I went out same day with my hornet trophy 440, and baged out on pinks & black snappa 4 mile out. They are farkin rippoff merchants.

If its his (mac Attack) fishing spot that no one knows about.. You should publish the  waypoint on every fishing web site you can get holed of.

 for balance sake I've been

Thu, 2013-05-23 21:07

for balance sake I've been on mac attack with Richie as skipper. Bagged out and had a good chat to him on the way back in and he seemed like a decent bloke. Had 8 on the boat which lead to the odd tangle but all in all had a great time.

to be honest I wouldn't go on

Tue, 2013-05-28 18:53

to be honest I wouldn't go on the boat again, was only passing through and talked a few mates into gong out for a half day with him. Got a couple of pannies between us, but the amount of undersized fish we were had to get through was ridiculous. Had no issues with the bloke running the boat, seemed friendly enough but there is better value for money out there IMO.

Myself and 3 mates went on 'Mac Attack' last October to fill up a day and what a disaster.

First of all they had Jarvis Walker gear which was partly rusted, we then waited 45 mins for his mate to show up (half a day charter from monkey mia) with 2 backpackers which didnt pay a cent, we trolled around for mackies for 15 mins and only picked up a NW blowie which he stabbed and threw back ... after trolling we got told he had a good spot to take us, turns out it was way past the point of cape peron national park, the swell was quite large, the girls got seasick.

We got taught how to tie a blood knot and tied our own rigs on as he couldnt be bothered getting the gear ready before we left (we arent amatuers), dropped down, hooked onto a shark, the reel breaks so he starts to winch it in by hand and call us weak at the same time. At this stage he decides there are too many sharks around so we left that spot after 20 mins and drove 2 hrs into heavy swell to monkey mia ... to top it off halfway in he couuldnt be bothered driving and asks my mate to steer the boat while he drinks his beers!!

We were planning on leaving that night but we stayed an extra night just to confront the owner the next morning and we got our money back while putting the skipper who was sitting in the boss's office to shame.

I wonder if that was the same

Wed, 2013-07-03 17:50

I wonder if that was the same skipper who drove straight through my line when I had a clearly visible balloon out at Steep Point last time I was up there. I guess boats do have right of way over a balloon to a degree but how hard is it to drive around it when you have plenty of warning?? It wasn't far out at all and he could have easily avoided it if he wanted too. I definitely won't be recommending them to anyone anytime soon.
