In search of Barra
My Kiwi nephew has renewed his interest in coming to Oz primarily on a barramundi fishing holiday. He has in mind a blokey style trip without wives, maybe for a week or two for probably around four guys including myself. He and two others would fly in from NZ and I would fly in from WA. I have very little knowledge of when and what is available in the NT or Qld and was looking for feedback from those who may either have done similar trips or know of what is available. Due to our inexperience in barra fishing I was thinking more along the lines of a guided charter, at least to start with? My nephew is a diehard fisho who has fished many locations around the world so we would be looking for a more full on experience than the average tourist. All advice and recommendations welcome.

Some of the impoundments around McKay Qld
But I prefer wild fish, lower Ord with Maccas or one of the others really worth a look,

I'm not sure who to contact
I'm not sure who to contact for charters etc but I expect there are hundreds in fishing mags or online that you could look into .. As for actually catching barra, if your looking into WA waters then anywhere north of Exmouth is pretty good at this time of year. As you head head further north towards Darwin I think the run off is the better time. If your after true monsters then the dams in queen's land are probably your better bet. Summer would still be your best times as the water will warm up

Million dollar fish
Competition is on again in the NT.
Bunch of 10k fish in the mix and that would pay for the trip but the 1mil fish would pay for many trips.
My guess would be that the several released fish with a tag would be within a half day drive of Darwin. They want a tourist to get it for the promo.
If hard core fishing is the go then book a barra camp and the more remote the better.
If you want it more of a holiday then book a house in Darwin and do day charters or multi day charters.
Good luck on your trip no mater where you go.
Sometimes when the water is quiet, you can hear the fish laughing at you !

Thanks for the input guys. Maccas or similar has some appeal as do other options via pm to mix it up a bit with some saltwater stuff.

Maccas
Last I heard Macca had moved his operation to Borroloola in the NT.
WA based manufacturer and supplier of premium leadhead jigs, fligs, bucktail jigs, 'bulletproof' soft plastic jig heads and XOS bullet jig heads.
Jigs available online in my web store!

Yes Macca is now in the NT.
I caught up with him in Darwin last year. Ultimate Adventures do the lower Ord. Northbound Charters also operate in the East Kimberley.
