Sambos in the 40s?

hey guys,

just wondering where to start looking for the sambos and ambers in "the 40s". Which marinas best to launch from to get into some of these beasts? and is a quality 50lb combo with any old heavy jig enough to entice and land them?

thanks in advance rob

 Bigger jig the better, work

Bigger jig the better, work it as fast as you can with a couple of pauses in between and hold on.

Cheers boomer

We have found smaller jigs

Sun, 2011-11-20 20:08

We have found smaller jigs have worked at least as good, as long as you can get it down. My biggest sambo this season (over 30 kg) was on a 120 g demersal jig worked very slowly.

When they are fussy, good quality japanese jigs make the difference, not necessarily worked fast (depends on the jig action). Then they are on, it does not matter. Cheap jigs need speed.

they have

been very fussy recently wityh the full moon totally knocked them about last week (sat)  friday fished its nuts off on baits and placcys,  sunday fished mental on placcys,  thursday they where sitting hard on bottom hitting baits more than placcys(even when worked very slow) and today they wouldnt touch a placcy and where smashing jigs like mental.......

as for cheap and pricey jigs..... imo and i do have a mix of both..... if its shiney, green purple or silver... they will smash it, the other week i had just as many hits on a cheapy 150g sea rock as i did my other shinier chromeys..... i think a fair bit of price is to do with peoples confidence in the product. we used sinkers with assist hooks and 13mm spanners last year.

thanks for the help with jigs

thanks for the help with jigs boys. i have plenty of exxy demersal jigs, so i might just pick up a few big cheapies. i already have a spanner rigged up for when we get into a hot bite (fingers crossed).

ive heard squid is the best bait for em, is it best on a paternoster or running sinker rig? and placcys im guessing big (7+11 inch?) on a big jig head with a solid hook?
