Butterfly

I wouldnt bother with the butterfly. If they are hungry they will eat it without all the extra work.
We normally use herring and run a fillet off one side. Use the fillet on a squid on one hook and the herring minus the fillet on the other. Natural burley trail.

Stick to whole baits like squid stay away from tuna fillets less berly in the water the best if your fishing up North tax man will find you a lot quicker.

We used tuna cubes on 15/0 circles and killed it last June in 150m, just fish until the taxman turns up then move on

Big and solid

Make sure your baits are big and solid, its a long wind up to check or replace baits that have been ripped or fallen off.
Full or 3/4 of a mullet are about as good as you can get

Always find

a whole  Lunds squid with a mulie shoved up inside it then pinned with a 15/0 circle is the go, also like to use a flashing light attached to the line to help bring em in too.

Not too many guys winding up in those depths these days , a flick of a lever and a cold beer !

Baits!

Tue, 2017-01-31 14:29

Chris,

For metro big oily baits like blue mackerel work well and being oily they berley up the spot especially butterfly'd!

Butterflying takes 2 seconds to do and I do that so fish dont steel your bait as thats the back bone!

If your doing recon fishing or fishing north I prefer using a whole Lundz squid pinned on the top with a circle hook!
