Rod talk

Hello all. Long time reader, first time poster. Thought i might as well ask the local legends on their thoughts.
Have picked up a near new Accurate Boss Xtreme 500BX. Seems very sturdy but paired up with a Shimano Trevala is not really happening due to the rod grips and thickness.
Would anyone have any recommendations on a nice rod for jigging 60-70gm on a pe5 line. Used to have a red JM Ocean Devil which was a bit overkill in max 50m water. But still very nice to fish with.
Very cheers fishos!

Target Species?
PE5 sounds like an overkill assuming your targeting demersals (50m, lightish jigs).
Would have thought Sambo Jigs would be a bit heavier. PE2 accounts for a lot of decent size dhuies, and at PE2 or lighter you have some excellent light rod options. I have two mythos and couldn't be happier with the combos.
Lighter braid would help the action with the smaller jigs too.
But I'm no local legend to be clear!!

Cheers Broady. Good call on
Cheers Broady. Good call on line size (got some varivas big one for a chrissie present!). Lighter line would open up a good amount of options. Based in Dampier so plenty of coral trout, big cobia, cod and some gt's.
Mythos look very very nice, lack of a grip above the reel seat might hinder thumbing the line perhaps, not sure?
Very sorry bit of a juvie when it comes to overhead jigging. Very keen though.

Very jealous
I'd say good luck but seems you've got a few more fishing options than Perth Metro!
Lots of good info around on jigging and I now never take bait out unless I have a beginner fisherman on board. It is addictive though - the jig collection seems to,grow pretty quickly!!
My overhead mytho is matched to a Ryoga so thumbing the line is no issue.
Cheers.

Hey mateHas been said
Hey mate
Has been said already, but PE5 is super thick for 60-70gr jigs. The added line drag caused by the higher diametre line will make it a struggle to get down. For light jigs you need thin line (or no drift).
Also 60-70gr jigs are damned small. I know that a lot of people feel otherwise, but I really never jig anything under 130gr.
Mytho is a great light jigging stick. Mint for all kinds of demersal fishing and some other stuff. But that reel might be large on it.
Tough call. You might be best off loading that reel with PE5 and keeping that JM rod for a sambo stick, and lookign at something smaller / lighter for demersal jigging.
Just an idea anyhow, you could certainly make it work with the reel you have!
Dan
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
