Reel grease and lube brands?

hi there guys,

can anyone recommend a brand of grease over another.  There are a lot out there from pricey through to quite cheap.  For the guys that do their own reel maintainence, what do you use.

thanks in advance

I use the daiwa reel grease. The blue stuff in the squeezy tube.

And find it really good. I have also used the alvey stuff. It is a thinner grease than the daiwa. It is also excellent but probably suited better to smaller reels. I use rocket fuel in yellow for bearings. That stuff is dynamite.

It's a matter of horses for

It's a matter of horses for courses with lubes, TGs rocket fuels in red and yellow are fantastic in baitcaster and other casting overheads spool bearings but are not ideal for the bearings in heavy trolling or spinning outfits, in these I generally open and grease pack them  (the Daiwa blue grease is good but Cals grease is better IMO). Apparently the Tungsten Tuff sold by Jack Erskine is the best for these High Load/Low Speed applications including cogs and slides etc but I'm yet to try it. I've found TGs liquid grease is good for the low speed bearings and cogs on smaller baitcasters and spinners ,the lower viscosity lets them work more freely while still hanging in there. Ousts metal oil is awesome for bearing speed in high ABEC rated spool bearings (5 and above) but needs very regular application, Quantum hot sauce is another oil that comes in a range of weights and has some compound which makes it adhere to components, good but hard to clean out when servicing. There are a whole range of other brands out there with stuff from Ardent, Shimano etc but I haven't used any of 'em. Jack Erskine has been involved in reel servicing, tuning and engineering for a long time now so I reckon you can't go past using the lubes he sells, I'm sure he would happy to pass on info regarding the best application for each product, the Carbontex drags treated with Cals drag grease are excellent.

Cheers, Daisy
