Pots around North Molo.

Went to North Molo on Sat night, pretty packed as always on the weekend. To make it even worst, there is around 20 pots around the north face of the molo within about 20 meters of the edge of the rocks, so well within everyone’s casting distance. So people has to squeeze even more, which creates all sorts of issues. Is the ocean really so small, that this is the only place, the “person in interest” found to put his pots in? There is not many decent LB fishing spots in the metro area, so when you are lucky enough to have a boat, don’t ruin it for a little guy and move your pots bit further please. Are there any rules regarding how far the pots have to be, etc?

No rules

They can dump them as close to the rocks as they want or care to providing they are not in a navigation channel.

There is limited cray ground around there and the moles are a good holding spot for crays so the dinghy fishers take the easiest and shortest travel option by dumping them there and taking the risk of getting hit by sinkers and caught on hooks snagged on the ropes.

Half those pots are pro pots

Half those pots are pro pots too, saw the pros checking them when I was there last time. Theres even two pots dumped right on the bloody wreck just out from the mole.

Sure, i can understand why a dingy fisherman might dump his pots there, but sureley pros in 60ft boats can find better ground than north mole.

Time and money

Its all time and money, why run a big diesel that chews fuel at 70+ litres an hour for longer when you can get a feed under you doorstep

Ánother spot that is overlooked for crays down south is the large flat rock about 50 feet out to the right of Hamelin boat ramp, its usually loaded and everyone drives right past it
