Popping/stickbaiting sambos
Submitted by Brad Y on Fri, 2013-07-05 09:19
Anyone done much in the way of chasing sambos on popping/stickbait gear? Thinking of giving it a try tomorrow for something different. I know I can get them jigging, but thinking a fast sinking stick shadd on my PE8 popping gear would be interesting.
Anyone?

Yeah if you can find them
Yeah if you can find them shallow enough and burley them up to the surface then go for it.
Though don't reckon you'll need PE8 unless you are fishing near some really gnarly structure (though if Mewstones or something is what you are thinking then maybe you do need it).
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I was thinking the exact
I was thinking the exact same thing the last couple of days. Probably thinking of trying it at the same spot as well.
I think you would need some burley to bring the school up or get someone to jig a few up while you cast.

Yeah doaky it should be more
Yeah doaky it should be more than possible. Those stick shadds can sink a fair way. Weather not looking 100% for a bash west of the cape in my little tub so will give it a crack I reckon.

Brad, Plenty of Samsons
Brad,
Plenty of Samsons holding in the thirty to forty ATM.
If you have some lumps all the easier but South West Bank heaps of them there yesterday.
Pull out the jigging gear remove the hooks when located school get em fired up which also brings them higher in the water column you still will feel the hits and watch them come up following the jig..
Do three drifts tops then out with the popper gear.
Don't waist the bait jigs spark em up!!
ASWB all the way to Carpenter Pandoras have been working for me.
They prefer flash with silver being the stand out.
Its awesome fun have had three trips out in the last week targeting Samson with stickbaits and again this Monday.
Good luck.
