About time.I made the
About time.
I made the decision to require all passengers (and myself) to wear life jackets when on board, after that old guy lost his life up near Hillarys and they found the boat with his dog on it.
Makes sense to me, other states require it, so why not. It's not like they are uncomfortable, I usually forget that it's on except when taking my jacket off.

I see over in the states
I see over in the states boats under or over a certain size now require wireless kill switch. Wouldn't be surpised if something like that comes in here too.

Everything becoming mandatory
Dont agree with it
Seems that everything is becomming mandatory. Being made to get the vax because Im in the resources industry, being made to wear a life jacket. Should be able to choose in my opinion, if I dont want the vax and die from covid thats my issue. If I dont want to wear a life jacket and die drowning thats also my issue. Thats my 2 cents anyway!! haha
Cheers

what if
what if you get covid (but dont yet know youve got it), pass it onto your mum, and she dies from it?
I dont know you or your circumstances, but I can not for the life of me wonder why anyone in this day and age would not want to get the vaccine.

So many what ifs
Yeah mate so many what ifs, Im not even going to argue about it. Everyone has an opinion.
Just saying that it should be a choice not a mandate - For both life jackets and what goes into your body hahaha

Don't want to start a vax
Don't want to start a vax debate but I think it's obvious that if you ever want to travel overseas you'll need to be vaxed anyway. That convinced my 19 yo son!

We now know what if
It is becoming clear that the covid jab does not stop you getting covid and passing it on to your dear mum.
It might stop you getting as sick if you do get covid. It doesn't reduce your chance of dying from covid.

Yes Dave, there seems to be an anomoly in the data
The data is showing a reduction in hospitalisation rates but no difference in mortality rates between the jabbed and unjabbed groups.
For instance, in the large Pfizer Cominarty double blind placebo control with roughly equal cohorts of around 50k, the jabbed group had 15 deaths and the unjabbed had 14. The reported hospitalisation rate in the jabbed cohort was significantly lower.
It is reasonable to assume that if it stops you getting sick with covid it should also reduce your chance of dying, but the data does not show that. It is interesting.
The article linked here explains some of the potential issues with these trial treatments, as raised by some people with decent credentials https://blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2021/06/08/why-we-petitioned-the-fda-to-refrain-from-fully-approving-any-covid-19-vaccine-this-year/

Interesting reading KalSteve.
Interesting reading KalSteve. Thanks for the link. Shows that we still have much to learn about this (stating the obvious!). For me and my family we all decided that being vaccinated would hopefully provide some protection when we inevitably get exposed to the virus.
For what it's worth the only people I know that caught covid were last year before any vaccines were available. Three people returning from overseas had minor symptoms for a couple of days, one in his 30's in London got very sick and still has some issues, and one unfortunately died. None had any underlying health issues.

Is that a standing order that you've passed on to your family & friends and the local sea rescue groups or something you just keep to yourself?

Don't knock it till you try,
Don't knock it till you try, honestly you put it on at the start of the day and forget your even wearing it. Saves some one in emergency services the grief of fishing your body out of the water.

I don't have a problem with it, started wearing a lightweight self inflatable this year up north and as Pete says you don't even really know it's there after a while.

I wear a self-inflating
I wear a self-inflating jacket if on the boat alone and a manual one if fishing off the marlin board with others. Compulsory for fishing on my boat because it's too easy to fall in.

What a load of shit, wear it
What a load of shit, wear it if you feel the need to, if not dont. This is the issue we have in society now, let people make their own decisions and deal with the consequence. and keep the old 'sea search people have to get them' bullshit to your self. People die with life jackets on, people live with life jackets on. Let it be. NANNY STATE

Do you only wear the seat
Do you only wear the seat belt in your car if you feel the need to?
How about the lap belt on an aeroplane?
Do you bother with a helmet when on a motorcycle?
Its not a nanny state. Its basic safety precautions.

I see the need and agree to
I see the need and agree to most rules but gee its a rules based society these days, some good, some bad, some just to raise money.
Its not exactly funny but still gives me a smile when I think of my childhood that was not heavily rules based and it was accepted that you used common sense.
We use to ride in the back of the ute everywhere, no seat belts in cars, ride a motorbike without a helmet, dad would teach you how to hunt safely using a gun before you were even 10yrs old, I got a fair smackn if I was a smart ass, I behaved in public, stood up for people who could not stand up for themselves, taught to stand on the outside of a woman so she is not closest to traffic if ever there was an accident, check on the elderly who lived in your street, talk to your neighbour, offer help and not expect anything in return, be home before street lights turned on etc
The world we live in today is a far cry from the common sense simple life I lived along time ago but if this rule saves lives then i'm all for it.
