How to catch Residential Crayfish in pots

 Hi All,

Dropped a pot out from Hillary's with little luck. One of the closer reefs 6m deep.

Is there a favourable depth, and general area when targeting reds?

Cheers

This time of year I catch plenty of reds in the shallows from 2-3m to 10m. Find a nice big platform shape reef and drop your pot ontop of it is the basics of what I try. They will disappear very soon though for afew weeks then the whites will be on.

That is what I do for reds, don't aim as much for the back edges unless they are covered in weed and more of an extended shelf of reef. Then after the next full moon everything will go very quiet until the whites.

 Interesting!

So there's a full moon on the 20th Oct and 19th of November.

After which full moon will it get quiet?

Also, how fresh does the bait have to be? My tuna heads were untouched. So I refroze them..

I didn't realise the full moon was that close I thought it was closer to the end of the month. I would say that they will go quiet after the October full moon. I think fresh bait makes a difference.

I have a spot in 2.5m that has residential crays. I have never managed to get one in a pot but very regularly duck dive down and grab some.

There are a number of other spots that we drop out pots and dive around. We have to move our empty pots to get into the sand holes the crays are in.

When you find out, please let me know!
