went down last weekend for a fish at the cut and threw a pot in for a lil bit off the rock wall. got 2 size and about 8 undersize in about an hour, both size were females so got thrown back. spend the time though and im sure you will get your fill.

crabs wait till after christmas

Wed, 2011-11-23 16:03

hi mate if i was after a feed and had to travel 2hrs to get there i'ld wait till after christmas as you should be able to get a good feed quickly it looks like it's going to be a very good season if people will just let them get to size plus instead of hoiking them out of the water every 5 minutes and measuring them or bloody well keeping undersize

i dont see what your getting at here? as far as im concerned ive done nothing wrong, i was down there all day and only threw it in for an hour to try my luck as we all do. as for taking undersize crabs i wouldnt even think about it and neither would my mates.

comment not aimed at you

Hi Poketz

I'm not having a shot at you, I live on the estuary and by and large most people catch their crab measure it and if it is not size release it straight away. Unfortunately there is a small minority who will catch every crab they see put it in the bucket and sort out what is what at the end of the day. What happens is you go for a walk along the estuary at the end of the day and there are lots of dead small crabs in the shallows, which means less size crabs later in the season. The comment as I have stated is not directed at you, it is just a statement about what is going on and what a pity it is (in my opinion) that the season doesn't open untill after christmas when a lot more crabs would be size. If you are going to come down after christmas to get a few crabs PM me and if I can I'll give you a heads up on what is going on

the other advantage to going

Thu, 2011-11-24 08:40

the other advantage to going down after xmas, is they are not only 'just size' they are generally much bigger = more meat in them!!

Personally i hate eating small just sized crabs, too much work getting the meat out.

Its been about 5 years since I've seen big crabs before xmas, bit of a bummer really.

Thanks guys,

Thought as much but had not seen anything on the site so thought I might ask the question.

Will see what is happening just before Xmas. A few crabs on the chrissy dinner table would be ideal for us land lubbers in the bush.
