Madfish or Chiller fish bags?
Submitted by woody on Sat, 2017-09-02 18:39
Looking to buy a decent large cooler bag to store the catch in instead of my esky. Is the Madfish bag really worth twice as much as the Chiller brand bag? Has anyone compared/owned both? Or is it like comparing a Toyota to a Great wall?

I have the large Madfish
Really needs a size between large and medium, IMO. But it will certainly take a 50lb wahoo with no problems. Very rugged, nil damage to it yet after some extended use. As for maximum ice-keeping capabilities, I think it would be pretty good. We previously took a large esky to Ningaloo each year,(winter) filled with home-made blocks that fitted exactly to allow us to keep ice for 2 weeks, then having to do a trip to Exmouth to fill up again. We now use the large madfish, and charge it every day with frozen milk bottles. We have 2 sets, put a fresh set in every morning out of the freezer so the solar can freeze the others while we are out fishing. At the end of each days fishing, fish are removed for cleaning, bag and milk bottles are given a quick was and closed up again. Bag is still cool in the morning , not smelly, for the freshly frozen bottles to go in and process is repeated. Works for us, keeps fish cold enough for good quality. This may not work for the freezer fillers, we only work on killing a max of couple of fish a day, otherwise, apart from any other considerations, you could easily exceed your possession limit in just a day.
When I have used it at home, in summer, a bag of ice slurry chills the mackerel down well and lasts all day. Mine has now done 2 month-long Ningaloo stints, plus use at home, and still looks like new.

I have thevlarge and medium Madfish. Awesome. The medium is perfect for most occasions, the large gets a gernsey for deep drop or Exmouth. Have filled it to the brim a few times

Thanks very much for the feedback fellas. I was leaning towards the Chiller bags mainly due to the better range of sizes but I may have a look at the Madfishes
