So I went for a dive this afternoon of Grant St, I ended up with far more lead than I expected.

How much lead is in.
Most of the lakes in the country areas must have very large amounts of lead sitting on the bottom of them having been deposited there over a great many years when duck shooting was allowed .
How much crap is on the bottom of the swan river brought about by people using vast amounts of fertiliser on farms etc.
and so it can go on and do on

Did all those sinkers
Appears going by the video that most of the sinkers came from the one hole in the reef is that right. Do you think that most of the sinkers were washed across the reef after being lost and into the hole. Also was any shape of sinker dominate amongst the lot you recovered.
sorryfor all the questions just interested, thanks.

A lot came from that one
A lot came from that one hole, but only 10-20% of the total weight. The shape of the whole was more funnel like and it was right on the edge of some reef. Star sinker by number and weight as a guess, the other common ones are spoon sinkers.

Thanks for that
I could see star sinkers catching on the reef but I thought the old spoon sinker would be one of The safest to use.
just goes to show how you think some thing is a good bet and how wrong you can be

Star sinkers are normally
Star sinkers are normally used for distance on sand, the spoon sinkers more around weed beds. And you tend to finde more ball sinkers off jetties.
The fishing spot has a reef(more limestone rock) area you tend to fish off, with an area just to the north of it with a bit of weed, shallow reef. It also has a very small area of reef just to the south. Its not

certainly makes you wonder.
certainly makes you wonder. just think of how much would be on the 5 fathom out from rocko. or any other shallow reef for that matter.
that i spose is why they are now making sinkers from stuff that will dissapear over time

Swanbourne Drain
I lived in Swanbourne for a time and used to snorkle on the reefs along there and collected piles of sinkers, hooks and lures. As I was in the Army at the time I could go through the firing ranges at Swanbourne and drive to the beach where the Swanbourne drain is (between Swanny and City Beach, you can see it on google maps) and and just walk straight on to the spot without walking miles with my gear. I used to drag out heaps of fishing line, gang hooks and the most popular lure was chrome twisties so I guess the target was tailor. Every year I'd go down again and fill my tackle box for free lols..

The other spot I'm thinking
The other spot I'm thinking of hitting up is that little bit of reef just in front on the Swanbourne Surf life saving club. It has a lot of limestone which has just been exposed and is popular with the tailor and mullaway crowd.

Lead diving
I used to scuba dive a lot in Sydney, one dive, Bare Island, yielded over 200kg of lead. The first dive, I thought I would be smart and use wine bladders as lift bags. I had about 20kg of lead, as I slowly ascended, physics took over, the air in the bags expanded, then burst, down I went real quick with the extra weight. I learnt to only 1/2 inflate them
The lead was melted down and traded at a dive shop.
Recovered approx. 50kg from popular fishing beaches at Ningaloo a few years ago
