those "gold spot" are actually golden trevally and they are not bad to eat if fresh and they make good bait for more prized fish.   cheers

Love Reds

Sun, 2011-12-18 19:13

one of the best sights in fishing is seeing a big Red on the way up to the surface.

Not so sure about them Goldens though, chuck em back IMO

Great Catch

Sun, 2011-12-18 19:20

have to love those Reds.

IMO the best way to eat a Goldy is in a green or red curry, smothered in chilli sauce with a teaspoon of vegemite.

Great fighters on light gear

the big trevs fight like crazy and i agree  with you on the feeling that you get when you see the reds floating to the surface. one of the most memorable times of my life is seeing my 11 KG red hit the surface.

 great day out lads.

I'll put my vote in for the Golden Trevs, I got a couple back of the reef that CB this year on a light gear and it was all we got for the arvo.  Cooked it up that night and it was sweet. Really good fresh, can't say that I'd keep them or freeze them, but if you want a feed that night then it was really good.  Totally shocked me cause I thought they were lousy eating
