Line for balooning reel

I've got myself a Tyrnos 50LRS single speed to use as my ballooning reel for Steep and Quobba, matched to an Ozflex 24Kg LBG rod.

Now I'm looking at what line to put on the reel, I did originally have an idea, but after talking to a couple more people a different plan was suggested

I wont say yet what my idea was, and what was suggested so as not to skew opinions so...

What would everyone suggest I load the reel with ?? Braid Vs Mono or combo - Breaking strain - suggested brand of line etc

Cheers
Rob.

(and yes I had planned on using a decent leader aswell :)

I run 50-65lb braid about

I run 50-65lb braid about 500-600m then about 80-100m mono topshot. Just replace the mono when it gets scuffed, cheap as. The braid helps with the hook set and working he bait (with rod lifts and winding). Have tried all mono and have tried all braid but I think having both is the better option. The mono is easier to handle when gaffing and you won't always be able to grab the wind-on leader if it's a high spot. A spool of braid would last you a few years because most of the wear and tear is on the mono.

I was originally thinking of

I was originally thinking of loading the whole thing up with 60-80lb Braid, and when fishing use about a 20-30m mono leader (also about 60-80lb).

But it was suggested that all I would need is to fill it was about 30-40lb mono.....

I've balooned all mono before (30lb on an alvey), and I've also done all braid (80lb, Penn 10500), I did like the all braid over the mono, but the different style reel may have played a factor in that.

I know all braid will cost more $$, and I'm happy to do that, but would like to hear some more opinions on what I should run

Cheers

 Hey mate, I run about

Hey mate, I run about 650-750m of 50lb braid with about 100m of 50 lb top shot on my Biscayne LD 25 for ballooning and the likes an goes really well, doubling as a trolling/bottom bashing reel on the boat.

Like Flangies mentioned, change the mono every couple months and it's not too expensive if bought in bulk spools

Hey mate I run about 750m of 60lb braid with 100m of 80-100lb mono as a wind on leader on a tiagra 50LRS

no doubt it's overkill but heavy leader is a must if your fish gets spooked and goes for a run along the cliff face rather than waiting nicely directly below you to be gaffed....
