Leeman fishing
heading up to Leeman over the Australia Day long weekend with the lads for a 4 day fishing weekend and looking for a bit of general fishing info from anyone who has fished up that way?
ive fished Jurien a few times but not much further north. Will be chasing both a few demersals and pelagics like mackerel and hopefully a yellow fin or 2.
wonderinf if anyone can provide a bit of general info of the ground out from there? Seems on the charts the 10-12 mile bank out from jurien does not extend up to leeman?
Assume the back edge of the 3-4 mile reef is likely to hold macks and maybe tuna, water temp up around 22 degrees up there at the moment.
in the event we get some cracking weather we may attempt a deep drop whilst we are at it, anyone given that a run out of leeman?
any other general info would be greatly appreciated, anyone else up that way over that weekend?
cheers

Fishing Leeman
Bodie, I have usually lodged details of my boat with the marine rescue in Leeman (and given them a small donation) and found them to be very helpful in giving information about fishing spots. They will also give you the heads-up on what areas are a bit tricky ( like the Beagles) and what to look out for. Some good fishing around the Beagles, but it can be subject to heavy swells on occassions.
Good luck.

There is an
Obvious drop off from the fringing reef that runs right past Leeman that is probably the best bet for mackerel, good ground just west of that to about 30m then not much(that I have found anyway)until you hit the second bank.
this would be best bet for tuna ,yellowfin up to huge size.
It drops of pretty quickly from there and I assume the deep drop fishing would be great if you get bored of all the Dhuies on the bank.

Coral
I used to fish up there in the early 1980s with three other boats, once out the reef break,Nor West Coral flat ground, this time of year the Dhu fish school up for spawning old type Furuno paper sounder had hundreds under boat, all full of roe.a criminal shame ,I did contact fisheriers about this at the time as we new we were destroyng the next generations.I got no response as they were in the early days of understanding the ecoligy of the fish breeding.an old name some older members will remember J B I will not post whole as I have not seen him around but he was very good.

Thanks guys, Yeah looking to
Thanks guys,
Yeah looking to hopefully find a few bigger yellow fin if possible. Mackies would be a decent bi-catch at the same time!
Will look at the deep drop too, will take the gear up if the weather is looking good.
Was hoping there might be some bottom ina nd around the 30m range as this is where i can see some warmer water where the yellow fin might be hiding and have a bit of a jig for a few demerals.
