I use 4lb mainline for bream, whiting and small freshwater (barra, tarpon and the like) i use 6lb flurocarbon leeder for these species, flatties and choppers would be a different story tho
if in the river i have never found it neccesary to go above 8lb for flattys or tailor ever and dont think i ever will, if you wanted a good alround leader just carry 6lb berkley vanish ...... 14-20 lb ??? are you guys talkiing about the swan or some eastern states river where the flattys reach 1m plus?
8lb vanish has been pretty reliable for me in the river for some time now, i think its plenty, lets face it if a tailor swallows your lure its probably going to bite you off on 20lb anyway. cheers
4lb for bream & flatties over flats & around yacht clubs/jetties, 8lb if there's a heap of snags around. 10lb for tailor in the river, I've used up to 20lb but found I simply didn't need it. I run 2lb mainline on the outfit I usually use but I do have 4lb on my backup outfit.
What length of leader do you guys normally go for? Ive been using a tiny swivel and about 40cm when using lures for tailor and about a metro tied straight to the line for for bream and flattys?
Generally around a meter is plenty though sometimes longer is needed with fussy bream. Double uni knots are strong, The albright is also a handy knot with light line classes as it creates a very slim profile when tied correctly. Just be sure to cut your leader tag as close as possible.
cheers fella's Ive never tried the albright so just had myself a little youtube lesson and looks easy enough to do, still love the double uni, nice and durable and not that hard to do when its windy etc when your out and about!

I had a blast last night for an hour to the right of the narrows and got two more than decent tailor, great fun on light line! I hadnt been getting much luck on the small metals so threw on a shimano hard plastic (the ones without the bib on) and smack first cast!

Bream flatties and choppers in the swan mostly, got some 20lb but unsure if its a bit big for tying to the 4lb and for casting

Leader
Hi mate,
For Bream around 4-6lb fluro would be the way to go. If specificaly chasing Flathead and chopper Tailor than 14-20lb would be ideal.

me!
I use;
Bream 4-8lb Fluro!
Tailor & Flathead arent spooked like bream & whitting but teeth wear is an issue so I'd go 10-15lb
20lb Fluro on Tailor & Flathead is for if you dont want to change leader or keep on cutting back (wont stop the fish bitting)!
Best Flurocarbon leader for me is FC Rock!
