Jurien Bay

Hi everyone, I am going to Jurien Bay for the whole of tomorrow and Wednesday and am wondering how the fishing off the main jetty is going? I am staying at the Jurien Bay Tourist Park and have heard good reports from the jettys on the beach there.

I am thinking of putting a mulie out hoping for a tailor or mulloway or something big, also some herring and stuff with a smaller bait on the same rig and a squid jig for some squid. Is that a good plan?

also how are the squid going, are there many around currently?

thanks,

lachie

 Late evening/sunset throw

Mon, 2015-07-13 20:56

Late evening/sunset throw around small 2-3 inch plastics or metals, usually herring around and seems to be the best way to avoid the blowie plagues, otherwise small bits of unweighted mulie also do well at night.

Baitcasting mulies off the north-west corner at night usually produces a few tailor and snook if you can escape the blowies.

If you have a heavier combo (would suggest 30lb at the very least, if less than 50lb make sure you have 250m+ of line) chuck out live herring/yellowtail/snook and hope for the best, not the best time of year activity wise but generally get a few big things roaming around the area. Have personally witnessed plenty of rays, small sharks, the occasional larger shark, shovelnose, mulloway and pinkies being pulled in from the jetty.

Every time we fish there we usually get smoked at least once a night by huge unstoppables using 50 and 80lb gear.

Oh and if staying late into the night at the jetty make sure you take a torch as the lights generally go out at about midnight.

If you can get around to the marina and fish off the southern rockwall near the tip it seems to be slightly more productive than the jetty most nights, again live yellowtail and herring are generally the pick of the baits and can be caught off the tip with small pieces of unweighted mulie or mullet along with skippy and tailor.

Stop in at Seasport tackle and ask what's happening, they are helpful with information about what's biting, where, and what baits. If you stay on the jetty you will often see the guy that owns it down there a bit later on in the night.

Good luck, it's a great place and if the stars align it can be wicked action.
