Inshore Dingy Fishing From Hillary's/Ocean Reef/Mindarie

Evening,

Can anyone give any advice on (general) areas to try from a dinghy in the northern suburbs? I've only been out in Cockburn Sound so far, but am wondering if it's worth having a go further up, as that's a lot closer to home. Just some general advice would be appreciated, it's only a 3.7m tinnie so i'm not asking for the coordinates to your prize offshore dhufish spots... I've been on the beach and seen Little Island, just north of Hillary's, anything going on round there? I'm not really fussed about species really, would just be nice to get out there on the water and possibly catch a feed.

Thanks

Yeah mate I've caught some nice KGs, flathead and skippy and the usual Hezza a few hundred metres north of Little Island all in 5m of water and you'll get some nice squid in the weed banks but not as prolific as you'd be used to in the Sound

Don't forget the tailor in the wash around the reefs and the odd sambo that comes spoils the party when you burlied up all your bread and butter species

There's a marine sanctuary

There's a marine sanctuary around Little Island itself. You can see the yellow markers when you get close to it. However if you head a little bit east of the island, there are heaps of herring in that area.

Cheers for that, i'll give it a go at some point.

How about conditions there? The Sound is obviously fairly sheltered, so can possibly get away with a bit more wind and swell, but I was thinking of going out of Hillary's this Sunday around 10am, which according to Seabreeze is showing 12 knot, ESE, 1.7m swell. How's that sound considering there's no Garden Island to the West and Rockingham to the South providing protection, as with the Sound?
