Wore out an alum oxide sharpening stone I was using for my knives so I broke that up into little pieces and cut a groove with angle grinder. Now I have hook sharpener in all my tackle boxes as well as at home. File will give you that start but is a little coarse. Need something finer for a smoother sharper finish. bigger groove for bigger hook

Toss out
Never bother sharpening hooks, if they get a bit dull out they go, IMO no worth bothering with.
