help - doing a 3 week camping trip at xmas - perth, esperance, denmark

Hi all,

Im doing a 3 week camping trip with the handbrake and kids at christmas. We are thinking of heading to esperance and working our way back to denmark then home to perth. Can anyone give me any tips on what to target and how to catch them at that time of year? Esperance and Denmark will be the main camp bases for at least 1 week each. I will be land based

I appreciate any hints and tips.

Cheers

Do you have a 4x4, and are you guy's going to be able to camp over night at a spot. ? Plenty of options either way but it helps people to know what you are capable of so we can suggest areas that best suite your needs.

Summer can be a bit average for fishing down that way but you can still catch a feed and have fun if you know a few good spots .

Not sure about Denmark but in

Not sure about Denmark but in Espy try the tanker jetty for squid and herring, bandy creek boat harbour for KGs, 4th and Salmon beaches for skippy, salmon, mulloway etc....

Take a drive out to Capelegrande National Park, plenty of good rock spots out that way, all 4x2 accesssible.

Where are you camping cos its a madhouse down here at Xmas...you might have to book?

Good advice

Good advice from woody for Esperance. 4th beach can be very good at times and all the spots along the that road are worth a try. Bandy creek is a great spot for the kids and easy to fish.

I mostly use a droper rig with a 2 hook gang and half a mulie on top, and a smaller hook on the bottom loop with a bit of squid. This way you will catch a good feed of herring, skippy, whiting, while with the half mulie on top you could snag a salmon or mulloway or even a very large skippy.

There are always fish in the gutters and holes but you realy need to bring them to you with some burley. Try to spread it out on the shore at your feet rather than chucking heaps out into the sea. That way the waves will spread the burley out slowly and not take the fish away from you. Watch were the oil slick goes because there might be a rip in the gutter taking the burley to the next hole on the beach, Some times i go up the beach , spread the burley and walk back to were it ends up and fish that area .

Hope this helps ,

Thanks heaps guys, thats awesome info. I'm new to WA so still feeling my way around. My fishing playground for the last 31 years has been the paradise known as the NT - very different to the south west
