Has anyone fished Walpole?

Hey fellas,
Thinking of taking the boat to Walpole for a few days. Would like target whiting, bream and flathead from inside in the inlet but also head out and get YTKs and demersals. Looking at the charts it gets deep QUICK, 40m a nautical mile out - hence the demersals. PBut given its the southern ocean, what are the conditions like? Has anyone else been? Plus it looks a little treacharous getting out. Also are there many fish in the estuary?
Im running a 4.5m ali centre console, robust for its length.
Love to hear any experiences.
thanks guys

hard to pick channel out
hard to pick the channel out with all the rain and dirty water that is in the estuary now. You would be better to launch at Peaceful bay or Boat Harbour, if Boat Harbour go East to Stanley island and fish straight out from the island, lots of good ground around there cheers Ace

Boat Harbour
Isn't an actual boat harbour.
Its a small bay at the end of a longish soft track between Parrys and Peaceful Bay with a narrow opening between the heads.
It's quiet shallow too but sandy bottom and a hard beach.
As mentioned, the track is very prone to flooding too...
Cheers

Boat Harbour
The track into Boat Harbour is closed at the moment after all the rain down here.
Better off going from Parrys. Cheers

Only fished out of there
Only fished out of there once but gee its a different ocean! The swell comes in through you and rebounds off the cliffs and comes back at ya making it a washing machine the whole time. In saying that its bloody good fishing. We fished the 60's and 70's but I'd imagine theres plenty of good ground in closer.
Yeah the mouth is interesting, our 18fter was dragging on the bottom so had to get out and push. Getting out is easier than getting back in I rekon. Getting back in youve got swell/waves that can turn you side on if the boat catches on the bottom so you really have to be careful. Getting out is easier because the nose is pointed into the wave and you can keep it straighter.

Was there in March this year, got a lot of KG whiting, bream, flathead, and some undersize spapper, all in Noralup inlet, had a look at the entrance, but did not go out, as only have 27mhz radio, and they only monitor VHF, the entrance channel looked difficult, with waves going in different directions, don't think I would bother going out, you would have a following sea on the way in, as the previous post said, if you hit bottom, you could easily go side on, I have a 5m quinnie but happy to stay in the estuary, and the Frankland river, still caught fish, and had a great time.
Anytime Brad

Walpole
Been fishing there for years and never had a problem with the mouth.
Saying that do pick my days. Have given lots of info and posts on Walpole in the past. Use the search function or else have a look at my posts and answers by looking at my track after clicking on my name. Saying that have a good mud map of the mouth if you want. Just pm me with an email address and I will send it to you. Lots of great ground within a few miles of the mouth. I never fish the same spot and don't even bother marking lumps or ground as it's everywhere. Fish mainly put to the 40 meter mark. Can head around to saddle and goose island area, over towards Ram head or if you get a real nice day head to point neautes. Just watch the winds and if it looks like picking up then head home quickly as things change rapidly in the southern ocean.
Cheers Brad
I would rather be fishing

Hey mate, was out about 5 weeks ago and the channel was quite thin and hard up against the rocks. The channel has since got more shallow as of about 2 weeks ago. You are able to park on the sand walk over and have a look at the mouth before committing to heading out. As Brad says be picky on your weather choices if heading out.

Went offshore for the day
Went offshore for the day and got a good solid feed mainly of breaksea cod. I put up a report not long after we were out. It's easier to say read that than try and write it out again on my phone sorry. The channel is constantly changing so hopefully is better if you head down. Last year we stopped going from August till January because the mouth got so shallow. Peaceful Bay is a beach launch with similar offshore opportunities.

This may help - certainly the first few times going through was a bit hairy for us particularly if you've got an early morning sun shining straight at ya but you get to know it afer a few days.

Please don't head down
Please don't head down expecting that width of channel or depth of water. Had to be much closer to the rocks and water was nearly opaque except for a short time at high tide. Good video to give you perspective from the helm.
