GI Causeway effect on Cockburn Sound

The link below is a summarised report of a study conducted back in 2003 on the effects the Garden Island causeway has on Cockburn Sound. Its a pdf document. In short if the causeway was removed 300ha of seaweed would potentially grow back due to better water quality in the southern reaches of the Sound. Interestingly, the increasing of openings of the Causeway was also research with little improvement or even adverse affects predicted.
Therefore, the only true workable solution is to replace the complete causeway with a bridge. Considering its a Federal government asset, they should be responsible to allocate the funds.

Don't hold your breath
I'm sorry to say I think there is a snow balls chance in hell of any serious modifications being carried out on the causeway.

its a shame
that theres no real chance of modifying the causeway happening but that is what needs to be done.

Im sure cedar woods (mariner
Im sure cedar woods (mariner developers) arent too hapy with an algal bloom being blamed for the fish kills. Unless they have a foolproof design that would gaurantee no impact.
