havnt been fishing for a while so thinking of going for a fish next weekend. i live metro and would like to no where the best spot would be to fish bearing in mind i dont have a boat. i dont have heavy gear so ballooning is not an option. i want to catch something big and edible but not having the right gear to balloon makes this hard. so any suggestions on locations, bait, rigs are all appreciated

how big? you will need to be
how big? you will need to be able to cast? but yeah that weight range could pull a mulloway in. snelled rig with running sinker and usually fresh scalies, tailor fillet, mullet or you can use live baits if they are avaliable at the time. BAITS MUST BE FRESH!

Mulies will be fine though I
Mulies will be fine though I personally find they work best with gangs and some bait cotton to keep them on whilst smaller fish peck away, snells are great with Scalies as MetroLb says, also larger baits ....generally a much more flexible rig. Either Scalies or Mulies will get you a plethora of fish off any metro beach so thay are ususally the first i go for. You could try a slider rig with a larger bait/livey - which has two advantages - you can use a shorter and heavier rod to get the same distance of cast and you can fish bigger baits. If you have beach rods/carp rods - stick with metroLbs advice and hit up a scaley/mullie on snells or gangs and you should see a few fish amongst the rays.

depends what your going for,
depends what your going for, weather was too calm for beach mulla's this weekend. Metro i'd suggest you use the mullies for berly and try get yourself some fresh baits like scalies, whiting etc. Or like grey mentioned you can use the cotton but im lazy in that department using scalies you can just chuck straight on your hook and they will last.. no fiddling around just straight into it.
FRESH is the key or LIVE baits if possible, if you match up all the things mentioned above your in with a chance. Doesnt hurt to do some research too all these tips and hints will increase your chances dramatically
