Braid Life

Does anyone have thoughts on the effective life of braid? I have some braid that is several years old and recently have had it fail a couple of times at a knot on a swivel when hit with a good strike. The drag was not set particularly hard - about half breaking strength. I usually include several metres of mono to take the shock but in this case I had just rigged the braid to the swivel with a short length of leader below the swivel. Any thoughts appreciated.

very hard to say depends on
very hard to say depends on qaulity of braid, how much use its had how much uv been exposed to. try re-spooling line on backwards or lose a few metres from the top.
