Flathead spikes

I have heard ( cannot remember where) that if one becomes spiked from the spikes on the gills of a flathead that the pain will go away if you rub the area spiked on the belly slime of the flathead, would act a remedy to relieve pain, but think it was mentioned that it needs to be the same fish,

has anyone heard this? Or better yet put it into practice? Or is it a load to be spat and not swallowed

I neither spit or swallow but if you get spiked by a flatty rub the area on its belly and the slime has like an anti venom or something and it stops the bleeding.....no pain from a flatty just exesive bleeding

when i was up north, the guy i worked for (at an aquarium) said the two spikes on each side of their head is filled with an anticoagulant ( or blood thinner). he told me about rubbing the wound on the belly as well and it seems to work

revenge

The trouble with the filleting revenge theory is that it's always the little buggers that spike you.

I think I have been spiked by about half of every flathead I have ever caught and it works really good.

When Steve correia and Thommo from Channel 9 when fishing for flatties using prawn stars. From everything I have heard it works, but so does direct pressure on the hole. They do sting, but not a bar on a cobbler, happy moments etc.
