Esperance and Albany

Heading down to Esperance and Albany shortly after xmas and I was looking for a little local guidance.  I have a Fishing the Wild West book which lists out a number of 'great locations' but as anyone will know who has read that book - everywhere is a 'great location'. Im hoping to fit in a fair bit of shore fishing and I was wondering whether anyone could offer up any local knowledge.  I will be travelling down in a 4wd so any sites off the beaten track would be interesting.

Also are there any recommended charters out of Esperance or Albany??

Im asking for a fair bit I appreciate, but any and all help would be well received.

Cheers

Versus, I'll keep you posted chap

I really fancied trekking down to Bremer but we have a fair bit crammed in to the 9 day stint already so might have to bypass it unfortunately.

As for charters try Esperance

As for charters try Esperance Diving and fishing charters in town or Duke Charters out at the Duke of Orleans caravan park, east of town.

Albany

Have been to Albany heaps of times.. and fished quite well there.. tho only shore fishing.

Favourite spot is the Sand Patch, and last time we managed 5 salmon in December/January! Should get heaps of herring too.

Get a kayak or small boat if ya wanna catch bream.. and explore the Kalgan river.

Places like Nanarup, Cheynes Beach, Salmon Holes, etc. can hold resident salmon.

Also a secret spot we found last time (have only tried once) was at Little Beach. Go round the corner.. to the right of the beach across the lil bay on the far rocks.. get some good KG's :) :) yummy.

Good luck ay :)

Fishing Esperance

Hello greyheads1

The land based fishing in Esperance is great. The first place I would go is Roses beach, its about half an hour West of the town, it is a great place as there is a massive cliff backing onto the beach so it can be blowing hard up top but as soon as you get down onto the beach it's great. Just the usual on all the beaches down there let your tyres down and stay high on the beach. We used to head out there for a few hours after work and you could nearly always find a good gutter. We used to catch skippy, gummy shark, salmon and mulloway. Another nice place is Dunns beach, a little easier to get to and good fishing, but being in the national park you have a lot more people around. But these are only a few places there is also 14 mile, 10 mile lagoon, the cliffs east out to israelite bay, poison creek, and the list can go on, it's just a great place to land fish in my opinion.

Cheers guys looking forward to it.

Will take the surf casting gear then.  Mulies/herring on gangs okay bait wise with a paternoster or simple running lead rig okay?

for the salmon use gangs.. and if ya use berley the herring will take a mulie.. tho half a mulie on gangs or even cubes of mulie or prawn might work better :)
