Elec/mechanical advice needed
hi guys
I have a fourty hp two stroke Johnson 1994. On a 4.8 metre Ali runabout
ive only recently purchased the boat so not too familiar with engine yet.
i took the young fella out this morning for a squid and on the way back the motor stalled out, next think smoke is coming from the terminals on the motor, my thoughts were not good.
anyway turns out the shoddy battery strap had given way and pos terminal of the battery was shorting against the boat (Ali).
once towed in and at home I have found the fuse in motor blown. Changed battery and fuse and she fires up and runs fine.
but as soon as I push in the choke in on key it blows the fuse.
does anybody know what could cause this or how the choke works?
Anyway an eventful morning thanks in advance for any help

While your there have a good read of the below also, this one plus the water diverters cost me a full rebuild which im right in the middle off.

Solenoid
My guess would be that the choke solenoid is burn out and when you push the switch it creates a complete short and blows the fuse like its supposed to do.
See if you can grab another from an outboard wreckers to try it.
