Dinner Bell

Went fishing off Mandurah Saturday and drifted around all morning for nothing. Not even the wrasse were biting. Wind was gentle from the south east. Everything was beautiful, except no fish. So I went closer inshore for a while to my K.G spot but nothing there either. The wind changed to westerly so I thought about heading back out 7 Km or so thinking maybe the wind change would turn a trick. Mulled it over for a while, then decided to do it. Back to the same place I had been all morning and the fish were biting on the first drop, Within 10 minutes I had a nice Dhu on board and headed home. Now obviously I knew that the wind change might be significant but I am still amazed at the contrast. Those fish must have been there all along. It was as though the god of fishes had suddenly rung the dinner bell. So I'm wondering about other fisho's exprerience with this. Is a westerly wind best?

Mate not sure about winds but there is prime feedng times for fish, they can be on the bite for a while and than not a thing, they dont just feed all the time so i rekon this was the reason for what happened, lucky u went back and got a nice dhu tho, patience payed off in the end, well done

Westerly besterly, Easterly

Westerly besterly, Easterly leasterly. I know they're not real words but that's what my mate has said to me who used to be a pro cray boater and when they could fish when cray fishing. But I have still caught fish off an Easterly wind, just a bit harder to get a fish sometimes.

Solunar Charts

Mon, 2012-04-16 21:35

I think all the above comments have merit.

Heres a website that may help to explain it. just click through entering your location and it will provide the major and minor feeding times all based on the moon/tides etc.

http://www.tides4fishing.com/au

I went out off Dampier on Sat just gone and found that after 9am the fish went off the bite.

After reading Sunshines post (to Jig or not to Jig) about there trip out on Whitey's charter on Sat it sounds like they found the same thing? They were lines in before the 7am feed time time and fished well then all went quiet. At 1pm was the minor feeding time for that day and thats when the fish came back on the bite ("like a switch had been flicked").

Interesting to hear if there are reports along the same lines.

Thanks Russ, I'll have a look at the site. It was 1pm Sat when I caught the Dhuie so thats very interesting. A lot of people bag solunar charts so I've never taken much interest.
