Dampier camping/fishing advice
Submitted by Just1morecast on Fri, 2017-03-24 19:36
Hi all, have 4 days off and was thinking of doing a little camping trip off Dampier. Having never been I'd just like some advice. I have a 4.2m boat and looking at getting to the closer islands. Is this possible? Also what islands can you actually camp on, have tried the search button but got some old posts, maybe it's changed?
Any tips will be well appreciated, will take camping supplies so is it reasonably safe leaving stuff on the beach while we go fish and snorkel etc?
Many thanks in advance.
Sha

Marney bay @malus island is
Marney bay @malus island is great in a south or east wind .
whalers bay @malus island for a north or west wind (there are moorings in there too)
Norbill bay @rosemary island for a north ,east or west wind (again a few moorings)
Plenty of little bays along south edge of enderby island to protect from northerly winds
all of these are well within the range of a 4.2m tinnie
there are a hundred more bays if your happy to pull the boat up the beach or let her rest on the sand overnight .
Plenty of ppl leave thier camping gear set up on the islands while they go fishing etc so i wouldnt expect a problem .
give me a yell if i can offer any more help

Thanks for the info mate, just what I was looking for. Mrs and I will head down that way today from Port Hedland today round midday. Thinking of spending the night in Dampier then setting off in the morning. Ill PM you my number and if youre out n about fishing these next few days might be able to sort something out or even a beer.
