Creek and Barra Rod??

I am looking to match up a Stradic 8000 with possibly an Ian Miller Mexican Fire Snapper Heavy 5-10kg Rod for creek fishing and barra chasing in the Pilbara. Any other options or ideas around the $100-120 mark? Motackle have got the for $99. I have got a Barra Magnum and am very happy with that so I thought that the snapper spin rod would be of similar quality and suitable for 30lb braid flicking lures and live baiting. Cheers

as long as it's under 7 foot and has a fast action in the 12-20lb braid catcgory you'd be doing alright, your choice sounds good mate just make sure it has some grunt under load if you have to put the brakes on a good fish

I might try drop into town and compare the two. I havent been able to fault the Mexican Fire but I havent had a fish with a Starlo Stix rod yet. Cheers.

I think 30lb line and 5-10 kg

I think 30lb line and 5-10 kg rod is over doing it for Pillbara creeks, and most places in the Kimberley as well.

20lb and around 4-8 kg will stop any Barra, it will be easier to flick a lure all day and be more fun on the many fish that you catch inbetween the barra (jacks, cod, queenies, trevors etc)

The mex fire rods are great for the price.

I gotta agree, I had the 701

I gotta agree, I had the 701 raider and now I have the new barra sp 2012 raider I think it's 4 to 8kg. The 701 was a bit too heavy for working plastics. Both raiders have a he'll of a lot of grunt under pressure so the lighter stick will be plenty big enough. The new models are very sexy as well.

I had a look at them online and the are a nice looking rod. Ive got one of the T-Curve 4-8kgs and that has HEAPS of power for the creeks. Even used it off the coast of Onslow and caught some 77and 75cm trout on it and it handled it no worries. Might look at the lighter stick. Thanks.
