Hey everyone
I am heading up to coral bay in april (i know its a long time away) and need to get a new rod and reel combo. I was just wondering if anyone knows any reliable combos that can be used for both Land based and hopefully if we have a boat some boat fishing. Thanks for any opinions
P.s. anyone want to give away some information about some good spots both for LB and on a small boat.
Thanks Guys

The 7ft Lemax SlimMax is a great all round rod for Coral Bay mate, I've used mine up there plenty of times just behind the reef for trevs, on the Sandbar for more trevs and queenies, flicking around skinny water for spanglies etc.
It's rated for lures up to 50g and has a reasonable amount of whip so for landbased plastics, chromies and hardbodies at places like The Sandbar it works well.
If you're heading offshore again it's not going to be a deepwater rod but for depths up to / around 30m it's sweet for plastics and light jigs / octos etc.
Put a 3000 / 4000 sized reel on it with one spool 20lb and one 30lb and you'll be set.
PM me if you want some more info on where to get them, other ratings etc.
Few pics below of the rod in action up north:

Coral Bay in April...
Hi JK
Team gates is heading to Coral Bay for the 1st week of the April school holidays next year....I'm already counting the sleeps....can't wait to get back up there again....love the place.
We were up there a couple of years ago and only had the 14 footer....so we fished and dived inside the reef. If you head south once you get out of the marina (towards the south passage) you cross out of the santuary zone into the fishing zone and there's lots of bombies that you can anchor off and catch skippy, spangled emperor, etc. Even lost a couple of fish the to small black tipped reef sharks that hang out there.
We also trolled a lure on several occasions and picked up my biggest spangly...on a '$5 boat show special' lure!!
This time we've got the bigger boat so we're looking forward to venturing outside the reef into some deeper water....weather permitting.
Hope this helps
regards
