redfin catch

started to sort out my fishing box yesterday & got the urge, so rang my brother & off we went to one of the local dams.
our catch consisted of 13 fish, but I was disappointed with the size caught. on speaking to the owner of the property I was told that a local professional had come in & netted the dam; I have since dicovered that he has been attacking all the local dams in the area, so it looks like 6 & 7 lb redfin will now be a thing of the past.
however, our catch consisted of 13 fish. my 4 fish totaled 1.160kg, the largest 680g & 360mm, on cleaning I got 400g of fillets.
hope this is the right place to post these notes

What was the pro netting them
What was the pro netting them for? To get rid of them or to use as fertilizer or something? Won't take long for them to repopulate, one fish that will never be eradicated I think.

When in an enclosed body of water I believe they breed so heavily that the average size is forced down due to competition for food etc. Might not have been the pro taking all the large ones.

makes sense that netting and
makes sense that netting and reducing the population will help the average size increase as food becomes more abundant, and that wont take long hopefully.....

all well and good to net the redfin
but what about the trout that would have been also netted?? by the time they sorted them they most probably would be dead

If the dam wasnt stocked with
If the dam wasnt stocked with trout, there wouldnt have been any.
They are not WA natives either.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

lurcher he has a sale for
lurcher he has a sale for them in perth somewhere & is okayed by fisheries. it is true that taking out the larger ones will allow the smaller ones to grow & I have no argument with that, just that being able to being able to get a thumper when ever I wanted was great.
no trout in dam so no problem there & no they are an exotic fish but then again so are trout

Sounds like fun, a shame
Sounds like fun, a shame theyve been netted but as everyone else was saying hopefully that allows the others to grow bigger, only problem there is that once the other fish get to a decent size the chances are they will be the next fish to be netted.
