Busso Jetty and Accommodation?
Submitted by wayneleech on Fri, 2009-03-27 19:24
Hi All,
Me and a few mates are thinking of trying to get down to busso for a couple days before the easter break. We plan to do a dive off the buso jetty plus go on the hunt for a few salmon.
Does anyone know of any half decent chalet / caravans to sleep 4 people in down busso way? It's just for the boys so accommodation doesn't have to be flash though was hoping someone could recommend a place to try? As long as they've got room for the boat that's my main proirity:) cheers
Wayne
PS: Has anyone dived the busso jetty?

diving Busso Jetty
G'day Wayne,
Have dived the Busso Jetty only at night.... If you don't have a boat (which it seems you do) get your hands on a old stroller/pram to carry all your gear out and jump in from one of the lower platforms towards the end near the underwater observatory. Last time i dived there was a few years ago ...
For shore dives canal rocks (inside of boat ramp) and bunker bay (swim out along point) both are excellent... There is also a huge bombie (unbelievable I know) off Eagle Bay which is a magnet for all kinds of fish...

Grew up in busso have dived
Grew up in busso have dived and snorkelled the end of the busson jetty heaps of times. Like bones said if you dont have a boat get yourself a cart/trolley to wheel all your gear out to the end as its a faur way. Or you could just snorkel during the day, its only about 7-8m so can easily reach the bottom, even though most the cool stuff to see is in the first 4m down, and of course less stuff to carry out there. Massive schools of herring and yellowtail out there, usually a few small yellowtail kings, sambos, and even seen an undersize dhui and blue groper there before.
One thing to consider when diving under the end section is it is falling to bits and pieces of heavy wood and bollards can fall off at any moment. Just last december one of the big iron bollards(guessing over 300kg) crashed off the side and plumeted straight down. Was in my tinnie fishing nearby when i saw the huge splash. Wouldnt want to be under that. Even though its more expensive it even worth having a look at the local dive charters.
Accomodation, friend of ours that usually come down would stay at the kookaburra caravan park in one of their chalets or onsite caravans. Best thing about it is only about 500m to the jetty, 500m to center of town, and 300m from the pub. Very central.
If you want to know some mega shore dives for catching crays or big abalone PM me.
As for salmon, keep mobile and investigate any reports. And get a good set of polaroids!
