Bronzies

Seems to be alot of sharks around north perth at the moment, last 3 of the 4 times ive been fishing ive hooked one.. Pulled a whopper up to the rocks on saturday night. At first it didnt do anything except alot of head shakes, made a few short runs and didnt even seem to care it was being slowly dragged towards the rocks. I pulled it right up into the beam of my headlight just infront of me, and was absolutely stunned to see a bronze whaler bigger than myself, a moment later it went completely nuts, did a U turn and wasnt seen again. About half an hour later i hooked another about 4ft which put up a pretty good fight, then chomped through the nylon leader right at my feet. I had a massive slick going out as far as i could see in the dark, seems to make a big difference.. also watched somthing big busting up the surface for a few seconds about 200m out. Got a few tailor and herring aswell which mostly went back or became live bait.

yeh i was actually fishing/hoping for a mulloway, i was using 6/0 circle hooks with a running breakway sinker and 7-8 m 60lb leader to reduce chances of any bust off on the rocks.. ived attached a photo of the shark rig ive been using. made of 150lb nylon coated wire, about 2m long and is attached to 10-15m 80-100lb nylon before the main line. if theres an easterly wind a balloon attaches to the snap swivel if not then its just used in conjunction with a breakaway sinker, apart from the hassles of setting balloons out you shouldnt hook any stingrays.

Reports are every where.

Thought I would add that there are heaps of reports of bronzies in the cockburn, "I don't feel the need to swim lately".
