belmont was not firing at

Sun, 2007-08-05 21:35

belmont was not firing at all...

we figured it was cos of the rushing out tide...

By 11.30, the tide was fully rushing out, causing a stir and the wind had picked up... so the bream were off the bite....

we got there at the tail end of the bite... right when we pondered if they went off the bite, i reckon they did cos that was about time the current picked up on the bank.....

Nick: port jackson? what from north mole?

yeah thats the same time me

Mon, 2007-08-06 09:13

yeah thats the same time me and nickyau2 fished it... probably more 11am-noon yesterday (sunday)

I was using bait and nick was using SP's and neither of us got any hint of fish at all...

In fact nick made the comment at the end of it : "Is that still the same prawn you rigged up from the start?" lol

But yeah, earlier that morning, burswood was firing but all averaging about 25cm and under.

those lil bream are starting to annoy me..they peck at ur bait...i want something big that peels line!
im gonna go try the canning

its all the rod!

Mon, 2007-08-06 10:33

the rod makes heaps of difference... i should show you the difference casting my loomis vs my raider.... casting was one of my reasons for choosing that blank as its pretty long for a bream stick as i use it more off rock groynes than close in breaming around structure. i like fishing the flats in summer so a long cast really helps there too

i meant more like your whip

Mon, 2007-08-06 10:36

i meant more like your whip with the one hand....

how do you hold the line after the bail arm is lifted, allowing you to use one hand to whip it and release the line easily?

ahh righty see what ya

Mon, 2007-08-06 10:45

ahh righty see what ya mean... umm i guess just making sure when your back casting and forward casting its one continuous motion so that the lure maintains enough tension on the line so the line stays on your casting finger.... on bigger outfits i hold the line against the rod but i think with that flicky my finger is in the air so you need to keep the tension up so the line doesnt fall off your finger... lots and lots of practice i guess... if you lure fish all the time it comes naturally.. i'm getting to the point where casting all day long is second nature

so i'm guessing the weather has kept you inside... its pretty wet today..

hmmm well ive never used 1

Mon, 2007-08-06 10:59

hmmm well ive never used 1 finger to hold the line when the bail arm is open...

I usually use a couple and then open my fingers when the cast follows through to let the line run out....

ok got continuous motion... but with your finger, where do you hold it? Like the cork handle above the reel or the butt below the reel?

I always hold the line to the rod... so not sure how you hold the line with your finger without holding it against the rod?

samC i've got an Sr842-2

Mon, 2007-08-06 11:27

samC i've got an Sr842-2 IMX... sweet as rod! not that i've used many others but by a lot of reports on breammaster its up there.

i hold the line so it comes directly off the spool forming a 90 degree.. so close to the bottom of the cork.. seems to stay well on your finger and the spool when you hold it there... i always used to hold the line against the rod but found more preciseness when you release it if you've got it held mid air, easier for it to release off your finger

whats the rod like rickets??

just compared the actions on

Mon, 2007-08-06 11:43

just compared the actions on them... the Kamikaze is a more medium action taper vs my resurrected raider having a very fast action taper...

I think ill enjoy using both of them now....

possibly the medium kamikaze for SP's and HB's for a better lure action and the fast raider for a dead stick SP or bait striking light outfit?

Any opinions on this?

Theyre both not too far off weight together, however the kamikaze feels slightly heavier due to it having a a thicker blank and taper.

What are your thoughts nick?

sam 2 piece for me is just

Mon, 2007-08-06 12:02

sam 2 piece for me is just heaps easier to cart around... i've only got a sedan and don't always put the back seat down so it was more of a personal prefence for transporting. wanting 2 piece seriously limited the number of different blanks i could look at. i also picked this blank as i found it super cheap on a rod building site and then built it up myself.. don't know if i could have afforded to buy the off the shelf IMX version.. very pricey!!!

rickets i reckon you're on the money with the application of your two rods... it'll be interesting to see how the kamikaze casts a small plastic as i found the raider quite a "heavy" rod for doing that hence why i went down 1 line class.... it'll also be personal preference around what you like too

gotta remember my raider is

Mon, 2007-08-06 12:20

gotta remember my raider is now like 5'10-5'11.

so the centre of gravity is better now and has a lighter feel due to it being nearly a foot less in length...

Im not too sure how the kamikaze will go... it is slightly thicker rod however its well constructed and has a very nice action to it...

I guess ill never know till i go out there and give it a cast :D

anyway, should be fun
