Big thanks Sea rescue
Had a big weekend on the water, great weather , just want to thank Whitfords Sea rescue for the tow yesterday from 30 km off 2 rocks , left the ramp before 4am heading out to the bank with my mate Eric, lots of excitement with awsome water and our first demersal bash for a couple of months , 30 km out and all of a sudden my engine just cut out , just had its 200 major service, well slightly stressed I called up Sea rescue and told them our problem, no worries they said we are on our way, looked at my mate and said we may as well drop the lines, barren ground on the sounder, nothing happened for about 10 minutes , all of a sudden my rod loaded up and I had a great battle with a nice 10 kg Dhu, well after that we had the best hour of fishing ever, got bricked by some monsters, bagged out on great baldies, just as we got our last fish our tow turned up,back at the ramp by 9.00am. Just shows how lmportant it is to log on and have all the safety gear , good radio very important, merry Xmas Sea rescue and fellow fishos .

Nice fish - good story and better result. Hats off to sea rescue again!
What is the unwritten, standard protocol for that service - a carton of beer dropped to the sea rescue ?

Carton
Dropping off a carton is a help but goes nowhere near what it costs to go out and tow you in. Some groups, like ours, are sending out a letter to those who required our assistance listing the hours and fuel costs
One of my last tow in jobs was a boat broken down north of Turtle Bay, some 40+nm from Denham and involved collecting their camping gear off Dirk Hartog island. The whole rescue took some 9 hours all up and in return we received a very generous donation to the group, total fuel used was over 600 litres @ Denham prices of $1.85 for premium unleaded that we run the boats on.

Good to know - I can safely say if I was ever in need of assistance I’d be happy to pay any and all costs involved in the rescue and would put a carton on top as well for good measure

The problem was electrical,
The problem was electrical, the engine is Volvo inboard and at Sea difficult to open the back cover as it lets water into the engine very easily, I appreciate how much it costs to come rescue me and the guys on the rescue boat were awsome, back at the ramp they grabbed my details and gave me a cost of $350 as an estimate of how much it was, not compulsory but heck these guys saved my arse so we paid ASAP, was not me whom ran out of fuel, we were also listening to that drama unfold on the water, have just found out that it was the main engine fuse, great lesson learned.

You would be suprised how
You would be suprised how many disappear from the ramp with barely a thank you and certainly no intention of helping cover any costs.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Well done Whitfords Sea Rescue
Just imagine where we would be without these groups, there blood is worth bottling.
How to stop engine troubles which occur a hell of a lot after servicing, before I bit the bullet and started to do most of the servicing requirements myself (I call in a mobile mech for electronics) I used to have problems with engine failures which just about always happened on the first run after servicing.
Thoroughly miffed by these occurrences I took the bull by the horns so to speak and always arranged for the servicing centre owner to come with me on a after service run to test engine, and yes there was all sorts of excesses put up as to why he couldn't possibly come for an after service run.
These issues quickly where resolved when I informed him of my willingness to take out a half page add in the local rag detailing my experience with motor problems arising after having my engine serviced by his company. When all the threats and counter threats had subsided he did accompany me on the estuary for a post service run and wulla, engine failure. After making a highly descriptive phone call to his workshop which involved guesses about the person on the other end of the phones line parentage evolution and his ability to perform self examination for possible rectal problems with his own head we where rescued and the boat returned to the workshop, where the problem was found to be a loose electrical connection.
Problem with engine failure post servicing resolved, cost of servicing increased due to post service running of engine for 1/4 hr.
End off workshop servicing of my motor.

I've been a member of
I've been a member of cockburn and Freo sea rescue for the last 10 years and pay fees and a donation every year. Good to know they got all my details if things turn to shit out there. One day when life isn't so busy I'd gladly volenteer my time to help out.
