bent street boat ramp again

finally the dredge has turned up at the bent street ramp , I had a chin wag with them and they hope they will be dredging by the end of the week and be all finished by xmass , I asked what was going to happen with the material they dredge out of the channel and was surprised when they said it was going to be pumped to the beaches either side of the ramp to try and build up both beaches, which brings me to the question I didn't ask them but ask all the amateur marine biologists / oceanographers out there on FW does this mean the dredged material will all end back up in the channel after the first big blow next winter ??

Plenty similar to what they do down here at the Busso Marina. Isn't VMS doing the work is it?

cheers

Dale

It's very rare that a dredged area will stay at the target/dredged depth for more than 5-10 years.

Maintenance dredging is just a part of the ongoing cost of providing these facilities.

 Whilst dredging is good new

Whilst dredging is good new for boaties, but pretty crap timing imo.

They've placed their barge right in the middle of the pond (to the right of the ramp), which is an extremely popular kite surfing / windsurfing spot. The good SW winds are just starting to pick up again for the season and the barge is gonna be a pain in the ass.

To answer ure question though, after a few storms the material on the beach will erode, but theoretically longshore drift should transport it south-east along the shoreline and not direcly back into the channel (i'm assuming the channel runs SW, out from the ramp?), That being said, I don't know the exact water movment patterns around there, but that's what I'm assuiming will happen based on the current eroision / accretion around the ramp.

Not Even Close

I was playing around with the sounder around the dredge on Friday and the channel hasn't been done much yet.

The piece that has was only 2.5mts deep so i can't see it lasting long and i can't see it being done by Xmas either.

I put my 5.1 trailcraft in on Sunday but as soon as I got off the jetty I headed East along the shoreline until just after the small point and went out from there. It was about 1.5 metres deep along that shoreline gutter so I had no problems getting out. Just take it slow until you pass the point.
